HobbyKing Quadcopter Control Board

Hobbyking is selling a similar board as the KK Quadcopter board.

Based on the popular and already well supported KK Control board, the Hobbyking Quadcopter control board is bringing Quadcopter madness to the masses with its breakthroughs in quality and price!

The HobbyKing Quadcopter control board uses Japanese Murata piezo gyros that are less sensitive to vibration than SMD type gyros and also features state of the art SMT manufacturing to ensure quality. This board also uses a user programmable Atmega48PA IC.

Specifications:
Size: 50.5mm x 50.5mm x 23.5mm
Weight: 14.5 gram
IC: Atmega48PA
Gyro: Murata Piezo

Price is US$ 29.99. I think it is important to mention that Hobbyking has announced on their forums that a part of the profit of this board goes to the original designer of the KK board.

  • Hey Anthony (and fellow Aussie), if the newer board is close to release, any chance I can return the dodgy quad controller and pay the difference for the newer board with the 168 MCU?
  • I received a dud board from HK a few weeks ago. Sub-trim on three channels needed adjusting about 65 (DX61 Tx) and the pots needed winding down to almost zero. Same with a JR Tx/Rx and same with various firmware / + or x configs. Found another post with someone reporting the same issue so I'm starting to suspect a bad batch of boards. Hope they replace it even though I have reloaded five different flavors of the ATMega48 compatible firmware. The KK Blackboard is looking like a better buy if HobbyKing have these issues with quality control.

For now I will move onto the ArduCopter board and see how I go with that.

And an upgrade is already planned.  From the comments on that page:

Any plans to make it with a more powerful processor? I'd gladly pay a few extra dollars to avoid the mess with trying to replace the uC myself. (should be doable though)

    It's on the menu.
Perhaps 4-6 weeks away from a bigger Atmel MCU.
  • You can always pre-order, I think it will be a popular item when it comes back in stock.

    Missed this one :-(
  • I was surprised it lasted so long... I had been checking the site all morning, but when I had to go out they put it online. I think it took a few hours.

I understand that more are coming soon, but don't know how soon.

  • It has already sold out!!!  WTH HK
  • seems kinda old school with a gyro on a vibration sensitive riser just to save money on gyros.
  • 3D Robotics
They went fast! Out of stock already...
  • How is it to load it with ur own arduino firmware?
