"old stuff".. Indeed, the idea of a free and open (opensource) autopilot likely started with Paparazzi in 2002. Here's the orig. website: http://www.nongnu.org/paparazzi/gallery_v0.html
FWIW: If you have an orig. ATMEGA based Paparazzi autopilot you can still be flying it with the latest code (i.e. it's still supported). Meaning likely Paparazzi would run on the AP and APM? Hmm..
