Last-sell for many legacy 3DR product

Hello everyone,

As you know, 3DR released Solo nearly a year ago and since then has been firmly focused on extending its capabilities. While many of our legacy products, including IRIS+ and X8+, continue to serve customers well, their time in the 3DR store has come to an end.

At the end of January, we will officially sunset most of our legacy products; they will no longer be available for purchase from 3DR. As such, I invite you to visit our store today for your last orders of IRIS+, X8+ accessories, FPV equipment, cables and more!

After the end of January, we will continue to sell products in the Solo and Pixhawk families.  We will also offer a small selection of IRIS+ accessories and consumables (batteries, propellers, and so forth) through the end of March. And, of course, we will continue to offer the same excellent customer and technical support (including replacement components) for our legacy products.

Thanks to you all for your constant support of 3DR. We continue to work to bring you the best drone experiences in the world and to enable you to get the shot every time.

Best wishes,

3DR

  • Very disappointing to hear

IRIS was one of the low-cost and most community supported quadrotor out in the market

If solo was to become an alternative or IRIS, solo should have a lower price tag

  • @Andreas, I agree with you about Erle but this may be too much for one company to handle. If I understand the statements made by 3DR, the Pixhawk 2 will not be made available to the public.

  • Andy, the Solo has been around for a while now. Why don't I see any Pixhawk 2s sold individually on the store?

@Laser Developer: I have high hopes for Erle, though they are still taking baby steps.

  • @Nathaniel - so let's ask the difficult question: What can we do about filling the void in the DIY community left by the exit of 3DR?

I'm normally a pretty staunch 3DR supporter, however I must say I am very disappointed in 3DR's decision to simply discontinue all the legacy products with no future parts support. I purchased a Y6B kit in late 2014 (October) and expected to be able to keep it flying for at least a few seasons (first flight wasn't until May 2015). Now as it stands, unless I purchase parts and hope I have what I need in the future, I'm out of luck. As a consumer this will certainly impact any future decision I might make when it comes to purchasing another 3DR air-frame.

You may think this is a sound business decision by the numbers, but it's certainly not the right thing to do by your customers.

    Disappointed
