The M8N is fun. I get 11 sats and 1.0 HDOP in my livingroom, and that's below a metal roof and a reinforced concrete floor.
But then I removed the NEO module and antenna and replaced a NEO-6 on a GPS that has external SAW and LNA. What do you know, 17 sats and 0.7 HDOP

do you have a link about the m8 discussion thomas?
does it possible to have the specific file for arducopter like 3dr ublox file for this gps(with the best tune for it)?
@Devis,
The following is from the M8 posts on the drones discussion Group:

Some can give me the right parameter to use NEO-M8N ( this one http://www.csgshop.com/product.php?id_product=170) with APM ????
I wil lbe waiting for the M9, lol.
Actually, AFAIK VirtualRobotix uses the 5983. Why 3DR doesn't? I have no idea... My guess would be that they think the improvement wouldn't be great enough to justify the effort and costs of a design and production change for the existing GPS/Compass module and the next version might use a totally different chip....
I don't really remember much detail about the data - that was 9+ months ago and what I do remember is that I was googling my fingers bloody then to find the differences and data.
Thx Stefan, resolution (I guess you are refering to noise floor with 2 milli Gauss) was not comparable with my Honeywell datasheets. Not mentioned for the 5883L. Or is this the digital resolution, they are mentioning just the typical value of the 5883L , while the 5983 is only from 0.75 min or 4,75 max ? Output datarate is the same at.single measurement.
But I did not recognize (or find out), that this is of any importance for our birds , but you obviously noticed a difference, which I did not. But I admit, I did never test flying along electrical lines.
What Im still asking myself, why nobody is using or switching over to the 5983 for ready assemblys , same Pinout about the same price (according to the prices of the cheap BOBs Í bought)
Not even 3DR is recognizing this (Although this 5983 is on the market since a long time, the LEA V1.2 still is coming with the 5883)
Superb!
