Michael: the main difference is the labor of assembling the kit, configuring and testing it. It takes a worker a few hours at the factory. If you're happy to spend that time yourself are are willing to handle the risk of an error in the assembling process, the kit is the right choice for you. The RTF version is for people who just want something that works, right out of the box.
The hexa kit is $520 but the hexa ready-to-fly is $765. I do see that the RTF comes with a spare arm. This will be my 2nd arducopter. Why is the RTF so much more expensive? Does it come with something else that I'm not aware of? There must be some additional hardware in the RTF that I'm overlooking.

I chose overnight shipping and had a pretty quick turn around time for the item shipping. However, the 3DR team forgot some cables and my power module. I've since emailed and tweeted them but they haven't gotten back to me. Maybe there is a delay there?

Hi Chris, Have just bought the new 2.5, and tested it strait away and I have GPS 3D fix in my den. what a beauty. I had never been able to have a fix with Apm 2.00. Thanks to the team. Pierre
I'm very tempted by the "ready-to-fly" package, but I'm curious as to how easy it is to move the electronics package from one airframe to another.
I'm looking at buying a "long-airtime" (2+ hours) plane and would rather swap the ArduPlane (and FPV, etc) out instead of buying a complete second kit.
