Ben Coxworth over at GIZMAG has an article up about the new GoPro "BacPac" that attaches to a GoPro HERO to give it Wifi capabilities and the Remote that can control up to 50 GoPro cameras.

This was filmed using two Hero's. The effect is lost at greater distances.

I havent used it myself but I have been following the RCGroups thread since the beginning and while its promising the camera has had a few problems. Id wait for the 2nd generation.

Theres a whole thread on RCGroups looking for a cheaper alternative to the GoPro and every few months theres a new Chinese camera that claims to be a GoPro beater but they always come up short. Even when the processor is similar the software isnt up to par and image quality suffers. On top of that its usually poorly made in one way or another and there is no support for it.

I bought the full 3D setup and had it shipped no problem to Australia.
The problem with the wifi at present I suspect is products should carry an Australia C-Tick mark (to Australian standards) to be able to legally sell wifi, etc. Until they get this approval (just testing and paperwork) they will not be able to sell the backpack.
I have been waiting for the release only to find it is not yet in Oz.
I have the 3D setup and intending to put it on my copter....when I get home!
Would love to see an open source camera, I would go for that because the go pro stuff is pretty expensive!
I use one every day as a helmetcam on my motorcycle. It's *truly* (not kinda-sorta-mostly) waterproof, high-resolution, and not too hard to use. I have the original HD model before the HERO2 came out. It can do the backpacks but the one-button UI & front display are not nearly as nice.
The power of GoPro except for the marketing is the popularity. Thanks to that you can easily find hundreds of YouTube movies on how-to, dozens of mountings for almost every type of usage and a wide society that can help in not so common questions.
I have Hero2. Recently I've projected and printed mounting for ski pole, works great :) and thanks to good sealed case I've attached both parts and can use it either on ski pole or underwater attached it to some other part of the suit.
hmm.. We should make an open source/hardware Gopro. I am not kidding. The design is relatively simple and media processor chips are dime a dozen thanks to smartphones.
Unfortunately GoPro won't ship to Australia......don't we have a free trade agreement with the USA?
On Ebay its 60% more than what the RRP.
