I was looking for some new developments for UAVs and here is what I found accidentally. OpenPilot Open Source UAV Platform seems to be very powerful autopilot, which is very similar to APM. I don't remember that is was mentioned here, so I decided to make a blog post. The link to their official website: http://www.openpilot.org/

The software design is very professional, but there are some members which have a religious like idea about their non profit system. The hardware is open too, in theorie. But they hide the present design to beware become copied before the build of the sensational cathedral is finished.
I think when they are ready with their cathedral (some day) they will be a lot more relaxed.
All starting to sound like the PicoPilot thread - lol!

OpenPilot is a member here and I don't remember any mention at all of any failure to attribute credit.
I'm very confused by this statement as well "...in fact did all the development for the GPS GTOP that DIYDrones took without any credit, we don't use it as it sucks based on our testing. They lack the knowledge to even add a ground plane for the antenna which makes it much worse still." - Dankers
Are they talking about the board the GPS sits on? I know they didn't do ANY of the development on the actual GPS unit. Remzibi's been using this GPS for several years. I also don't see their name on the binary protocol anywhere...so I assume it's just the PCB he's talking about. I can't say for sure that he's right since he has no hardware for sale and he abandoned it already....so how exactly did DIYdrones pirate this mythical development?
I'm a big fan of DIYDrones, as well as OpenPilot. Both are fantabulastic projects. I am a little worried though about the negative attitude of OpenPilot towards DIYDrones. They claim that DIYDrones used some of the design from OpenPilot (which is great! share, improve, share again!), but did not credit the OpenPilot project. Is there any truth to this, or has there been a misunderstanding? I would really like to see more good-will, and co-operation between the two projects. There should be no issues in one project using code, hardware, and ideas from another project - and it should be encouraged. Even if some projects are for-profit, as long as they comply with the license terms, release source code, and contribute back to the community - what's the issue? If someone has beef with that, they should license their work differently.
Anywhoo, rock on DIYDrones and OpenPilot!
Here's some interesting reading about the attitudes and timeframe of OpenPilot.
