Here it is! Finally, the PixHawk Fire Cape (PXF) is ready for a wider audience and we've launched a crowdfunding campaign so that everyone can get theirs. We've been iterating through different generations over the last year and with the help of many, we are finally proud to announce the PXF starting at $100.

  • Ant colonies have drones, just as bee hives do.

  • Doug, I figure the word "drone" applies to ground based robots just as well as it does to aerial robots.  It's only in colloquial usage that it is defined to mean flying robots.

  • Doug,

You're right about the flying matter. It's indeed valid for non-aerial platforms. I actually have in my desk a new robot configuration that does not fly at all and is powered by the PixHawk Fire cape.

Just my two cents on the name of it, I think BeagleDrone or BeagleUS (US = Unmanned Systems) would be better.  That way it umbrellas all platforms.

For much that we might like the BeagleDrone concept, there's already a BeagleDrone cape (http://beagleboard.org/project/BeagleDrone/). We also came up with "BeagleAPM" or but "BeagleUAV" seemed more commercial.

  • Ok, so is this board only used on UAVs?  What about rovers and surface or for that matter undersea applications?

  • Hugues,

The 90 € was an early bird. The cape is the same.

Having an "early bird" price is a common practice in crowdfunding campaigns to get an initial set of funding. We need to push through that line though.

    Any recommendations are welcome!
    Kind regards,

Hi Victor, whar's the difference between the 90eur and the 120eur perk ? Hesitating between the two...

  • Named changed to "BeagleUAV" (BeagleDrone was another project).
Thanks everyone for the tips and support.

Regarding previous comments on the goal, it has been set to 25.000 € to get the offered perks/rewards. Big batches lower production costs.

    Regards,

  • Victor I'm very impressed. Only a few of us voiced our concerns and you have resonded in a very positive manner.

    Backed for 2 early birds.
