  • Very good idea, use what is on hand and easy to work with. I was wondering would it work if you were make arms that have slots in the end to engage horizontal wood at each end? Do you think that would allow for the aerodynamics and strength? Looks large also, should be able to lift quite a bit of weight and be stable as well. Please post updates, want to follow this one.
  • I like the simplicity. Though it seems to me those arms are going to be weakest along the axis where you'll be seeing the greatest forces (vertical). If you find that to be a problem, 2 layers (possibly even thinner ones) with some standoffs in between could make a big difference.
  • Weight is less than the PVC + Align tail booms + 7" x 3" project box setup. Keep in mind I still have lots of sanding to do, this is just a rough draft for measurements. This is a trial and error design... if it works I'll try to CNC the same shape out of aluminum or something.
  • That looks cheap and easy to build. It also looks kind of heavy and aerodynamically inefficient. You seem to have a lot of flat plate area under the props reducing your lift thrust. It will work but you could get better flight time and pay load capacity with a more efficient design. You can get square aluminum tubing at the hardware store and and make a plywood center.
