USG-301 gimbal with Sony Full HD camera

Hello everyone,

Here is another video of our USG-301 3-axis gyro-stibilized gimbal with integrated Sony EV7500 Full HD camera with 30x optical zoom. All camera features, such as anti-fog, electronic stabilization, colour enhancement, etc. could be controlled though our gimbal, you can easily assign any button on your RC to control those features. Video out is HD-SDI or HDMI, control signals are S.BUS or PPM, so it is compatible with Pixhawk, Autopilot and most of popular flight controllers out there on the market.

For this particular video we used Tarot frame multi-rotor drone with Amimon Connex video link and Blackmagic Video Assist monitor to record the footage. Enjoy. :)

  • Gary, I can not say that our drone is low vibration, precisely balanced and stable. Check the photo below. :)

Hein, we are releasing new gimbal soon. It will be fully compatible with POI feature. I will keep you updated on this.

Great product Jacob. Do you think it will be possible to interface with APM's "Point Camera Here" function? I want to use it on a fixed wing and would be great not to have to steer the camera continuously.

  • Hi Jacob,

I'm sorry I was negative re no prices, but these days, it is a bit of a sore point with this community.

I understand options and think a "builder" is a great idea as it lets people spec just what they need.

I was actually surprised to not see stabilization mentioned in the specs.

Sony is a real leader in EIS so it is even more surprising they didn't mention it.

I suppose the real problem is that to do a credible job of it you really need to have a minimum of a 2 to one image size versus pixel (4 pixels = 1 pixel) or more to do really worth while Electronic stabilization.

And that is at a minimum, and it looks like the image sensor in this camera isn't big enough to permit that eg why the image blurs up a bit when stabilized.

The Sony action cams all have EIS and they all have video chips larger than 4 to 1 at the resolution they can stabilize at.

They actually do a very credible job in pitch and yaw with EIS.

However roll stabilization is still an ongoing poorly solved problem because it is rotary displacement about an indeterminate center (Yuck!).

Yours looks like a very high quality gimbal and presuming you have a low vibration platform, looks like it yeilds superb results even without additional EIS.

I look forward to seeing your "builder".

    Best Regards,

    Gary

  • Gary, you will also need to add interface board to the camera, which is another $500. You are right, for some reason Sony didn't mention stabilization feature on their website, however you can find "Image Stabilizer" section in Technical Manual and software that comes with the camera. The feature itself makes video a bit blurry, however more stable. If you are not using maximum zoom than it could be a good solution to reduce "unwanted" movements of the camera. We can make a video to proof it if you don't believe. :)

As for the price point - our gimbal has different options like connectors, mounting plates, video out options, etc. It affects the price, we will have online product builder on our website soon, so you will be able to get all prices on our website.

  • This is a very nice looking system.

The EV 7500 sells for about $750.00 and makes no mention of built in electronic stabilization in their specs although you say it has above.

Also I notice that even on your site you don't have a price for it but say contact us for a quote.

Generally I interpret the lack of prices as "If you have to ask you can't afford it".

Pity, very nice looking setup and video results.
