I guess they made it to TAAC.And I guess Cindy is looking for something new now that GWB is gone???http://cindysheehanssoapbox.blogspot.com/We really need to think of ways to showcase the positive side of this technology before the ACLU gets in on the action.
I'm no expert, so I could be wrong, but I was under the understanding that the down v on the Predator A was for hanging it under some large aircraft to get a free ride to wherever, and could drop in mid flight.
Most of the tal,,k in this topic has been going over my head, :) is this really has to be here, my apologies, I didn't understand the point of this topic to mission of this community as I could not see any haters from outside this community,or else where ,
@Mike: I have been following this site almost from the beginning, and I can say straight up that Chris has always been consistant about the mission statement of this site.
I really don't know what the basis is for your statement "it does come across as a military inspired site and probably started off like that".
You don't have to preach about the serious interests here!
Just a suggestion.
Even though most lawyers are considered heartless, they aren’t robots. It is much harder to insert men assets in a remote and hostile environment before the intel is stale.
Maybe we should call the armed ones RLA (Remotely Lawyered Aircraft)
Three Laws of Robotics; 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Laws_of_Robotics
And a more personal opinion; i think drones like the predator are the wrong tool for these missions; a skilled sniper commando would take the target and only the target out.
Mike, I'm open to suggestions, but aside from putting a big NASA logo on the Predator, what would you recommend? Not quite sure what "stitched vertical" means.
I do think that the Predator is the only really well-known drones, so that's hard to avoid. Gray was meant to be neutral, but I suppose I could redo the site with a white theme to be even more neutral...
I understand Chris and respect your policy. With regards to the point of the thread I wonder if really you need to review the way the site is presented? We have discussed this before but to be honest it does come across as a military inspired site and probably started off like that -understandable but as a wider community we may be under increasing scrutiny. However, many people's serious interest in UAVs is for data acquisition for development projects or environmental monitoring - social uses and maybe a move towards that in the presentation of the site might be wise? Some stiched vertical and such like...just a suggestion.
Mike, I apologize if I missed some comments I should have deleted. I do my best to stay on top of all the discussion here but at the end of the day I'm just one person. I'll try to monitor this thread more closely. The rule is NO politics, ever. At the end of a day it's a judgement call as to what's politics and what isn't, but it's usually pretty obvious what's outside the mission of this site.
Chris, you deleted my comment on a previous post on the grounds that it was political. I consider that some of the comments on this post are more so. At the end of the day of course its your call and I respect that.
Roger Sgt, Ric , isn't that interesting , simple solution instead of complicating the design with retracting mechanism for various sensors protruding from fuselage. I wonder what else were the reasons for such design decisions :-) BTW it is also interesting to watch the 3 point landing instead of 2 point touch downs
