Hi,
Inspired by Forrest Frantz with his multicopter building techniques using glue only, no screws (see here) , helped by him and Jon on frame and motor aspects of the build, we achieved and built what I believe is a world's record : the lightest 2-axis brushless gimbal carrying a full HD camera.
I will post and share building details in the next few days here.
Cheers,
Hugues

@Hugues The only thing I see missing in the 50g build is a mount to the copter. Mounting will vary in all air frames so maybe you can't really predict what is needed. However, some minimal mounting system could be in order for completeness. In the video you are using a X mount that is bolted to the aluminium frame. A simple L shaped CF plate or just glue back of motor to the frame?
thx Jon! You saved me practically 40gr total.
Well done Hugues
Video looks really good, pleased the 1806 motors worked out okay.

@OlliW, as said the details of the build and weight measurements with what is included are given in the link posted. You wrongly assume I did not do my research and homework, which I did, and it resulted in my confidence to claim this is the lightest. go check it out. A World Guinness book application has been filled in so I'll have a formal validation that I built the lightest gimbal for a full HD camera in the next few months.
About performance, this is another topic that is related to the brushless firmware that is used (Alexmos or Martinez or other) and is unrelated to my project here to build everything as light as possible.
hey hugues
this is a funny build, BUT
with all due respect, before claiming anything like "lightest" one should do the home work and research the web for what has been done and achieved before, and, more importantly, should be honest about weight figures and clearly tell what is included and what is NOT included! It is always easy to create the lightest build by not counting the weight of some "heavy" but required part
(here e.g., wires? also battery wire with plug? controller? gimbal support frame? vibration mount? screws? ... your two motors itself are 2x20g=40g and you give an overall of 50g, so there is obviously a lot missing in the bill when compared to other builds)
not saying that it might not be the lightest, but as it stands it's an unproven claim :)
(a photo with all parts, which are required for drop-in, on a balance would be a nice thing to show)
also, demonstration of flight performance is IMHO crucial (= video), it's really easy to make a build which works well in the way you show it
just my 2 cents :)

@Jayson, Yes I know this post from ARdrone from 2011 but this is not the record as it is not able to carry a full HD camera. It carries only a 720p.
@Crady, yes this is where you can get these motors.
and it was built 2011
Micro BLDC 40grams. for Parrot ARDrone

I believe the motors are GBM-1800s and these guys are the only source:
