  • Marc, if you're completely new to flying quadrotors, I'd strongly suggest you start by learning to fly one of the small ready-to-fly aircraft on the market, e.g. Traxxas QR1 or similar. Multirotors are typically more stable than conventional helicopters, but "more stable" doesn't mean "flies hands-off out of the box", and you'll spend quite a bit of time bouncing off things (and replacing props) until you learn how to hold a stable hover, how to determine aircraft orientation, and so forth. It's cheap insurance, and prop strikes from one of those hurt a great deal less than prop strikes from a 450mm quad.

  • +Marc Baptista, if you're totally new to multirotors, you may want to learn by starting with a ready to fly system and branching from there. For the initiated, a build is not all that challenging, it's a matter of combining components you already understand and know what to expect from to achieve the characteristics you want. (maneuverability, duration, heavy lift, ultra stability, autonomous flight, whatever.) To that end, I highly recommend a 3D Robotics product like their Y6 or Quad. They use the APM flight control system and you will learn TONS of things just going through the various calibrations and learning about Mission Planner, the core of programming and adjustment of the APM flight system. Rolling your own can be cheaper, but not by much, really, unless you have solid knowledge of the hobby. This is just my opinion, others may disagree. But diversity is one of the cool aspects of DIY Drones --lots of perspectives, but all supportive and success oriented. By the way, it costs nothing to go through the APM documentation. It's an excellent learning tool in addition to explaining the APM functions. Click Here.

  • Colour me completely new. I'm very keen however, and absolutely, intensely want to get into building my first quad drone. Can anyone show me where to start. Easy with simple parts and considering this will be my first build, a step-by-step instruction. Appreciate that and thanks in advance... I must add that I am a bit intimidated by all the acronyms, parts, and a basic understanding of the components.. Willing to read-up and learn if necessary. I'd rather just jump in.

  • @Neuro, Sad to hear!  Keep your chin up and learn from it.  That's about the only thing you can do. :) Smile!

  • first crash tonight........that sucked broke arm and a landing strut....

  • it dosnt' connect to the quad xbee , work but works great on my laptop

  • I have installed the droidplanner on ma G-top table device3692871377?profile=original3692871184?profile=original

  • What is the device you are trying to connect to? I have mine connected to a Nexus 7. Think it just worked right away. Don't remember having to load any drivers.
  • those driver wont work on adroid os R they?

  • Here is a location where you can get some drivers.

Building Possibly My Last Multicopter

I left the hobby in 2022 after the crash of my Tarot Ironman due to a propeller blade separation resulting in complete destruction of the aircraft. Since then I have been flying an old DJI MAvic Pro that I bought used from a photographer who wanted to upgrade. Anyway, recently l've thought about wanting to build one more multicopter. I enjoyed the challenges of building one plus the satisfaction of flying something I built. So I decided to once again embark on a build project. My needs…

Drone flying to non visible point

Hi there,I encountered a problem, while flying in auto mode, with approching to point that was not set by trajectory and is not visible after downloading mission from flight controller by Mission Planner. Does anybody encountered similar problem. The situation is that in the middle flight I stopped the UAV and uploaded new mission and after changing to auto mode it starts to fly in some direction. It goes straight to some point, so I assume it's not mechanical problem. I attached the link to…
