  • All,

Just a suggestion, if you use the discussion feature it's much easier to keep things organized by topic.  To use it, click the icon shown in the picture below

  • GByron - "I repeated the procedure about 10 times connecting and disconnecting the battery. I received no error signals. Then on about the 10th try the IRIS armed."

Not sure about intermittent failures, but I can tell you that many complain about loose antennas, both on the Iris and the transmitter.  Both can be safely reseated and tightened if you do it carefully.  On the transmitter, make sure you tighten both the plastic piece and the gold nut below it.

  • I have a question: I have a new IRIS and I had some issues getting the Quad up and running. I started with fully charged batteries, and performed the pre-flight check. All was well. I saw the solid green LEDs and commanded the bird to arm....nothing....I repeated the procedure about 10 times connecting and disconnecting the battery. I received no error signals. Then on about the 10th try the IRIS armed. This suggest either a software issue or a hardware QA problem. Has anybody else experience these intermittent failures?
I think we need to keep 3DRobots informed of the field testing done on their product.

Since the IRIS does not have a QA inspection sticker on it, it is hard to gain any insight into the pre-shipment process. I would like to know if they shake test the IRIS before shipping...

    Thanks Byron

  • Thanks David Anders.  It seems those connectors are easy to find! (this matches what's inside the Iris)

Hi JB3, which battery connector do you have?  But have a look at ebay.  I picked up a whole bag of XT60 connectors (male and female) for cheap as chips.

  • Anyone know where to buy more orange connectors for the battery pack?  I'm thinking of trying the Turnigy boat battery, but I'd rather not hack up the 3500mah battery that came with the Iris just to get the connector.  The battery that came with the Iris is working fine for me so far, but I'm wary of all the failure reports from others and want a backup.  -Thanks!

    John Hooper -

We should be out at the Long Pavilion for MAKE's drone event in Austin this weekend with our Iris developer's edition.

  • Thanks Kris. Yeah, I have been a supporter of the Pocket Drone for a few weeks now. However, I've been looking obsessively (don't judge) at this Iris and feel it has more support by the drone community. At least when it comes to open source. It also seems to have nicer hardware. I have nothing but love for those at AirDroids, but I only have so much I can spend right now. I am going to wait one more day before I make the switch.
  • For what its worth one of the leaders of the DC Drones Meetup group had a pre-production version of the KS AirDrone that he was flying. It was a pretty neat little machine but I'm happy to wait for my IRIS.

  • I ordered mine two weeks ago and it shipped yesterday...fedex says arrival by Friday.

"OLD" IRS+ am I out of luck for parts?

Hello,I bought an Iris+ with the gimbal, Black Pearl FPV and a GoPro in 2015 and used it to take a video of my farm.--After the initial activity in 2015 (my first experience with a drone), I was busy with other things, so the drone sat on a shelf (in it's case). In 2017 I brought out the IRIS+ again, and discovered online that 3DR was out of business-- and I could no longer get parts--so I thought I was just totally out of luck with this drone and put it back in the box.2022:  I got out the…

I put in my battery, waited for the IRIS+ to give the green light.i took off, flew around the perimeter of the lake some, and then headed offshore ( no water yet, just the streams ) i get about half way over the lake and…

Iris + won't arm

I have an Iris + using a Spektrum satellite and DX9 radio. I can only get the Iris to arm and motors run when the Iris is connected to my computer via USB (plus with LIPO plugged in of course). If I go through this procedure without the USB cable attached, The Iris will initialize, LED will blink green, safely button pushed, stick right down on radio, LED changes to yellow and alarm goes off. It will also turn from blinking green to yellow without attempting to arm if I just leave if for a short…

Iris+ Tarot gimbal camera compatibility

Took Iris out for some flights yesterday and still flies great.  But the USB port on my GoPro 4 Silver seems to have failed for charging and data transfer... but strangely still worked for Iris+ FPV.  So the battery is dying and who knows how long the FPV will function even if I get an external battery charger.Question: are there any other cams that are compatible with the Iris/Tarot setup?  I am reluctant to get another GoPro 3 or 4 since they seem to have fragile USB ports... and I don't…
