Charlie commented on Kristaps Brass's blog post Precision of Vertical Maneuvers – It's All About Safety
"Do you even need to set a 1 second pause? Copter should fly the route perfectly with a 0.1 second pause surely...?"

Charlie commented on Kristaps Brass's blog post UgCS 2.9 Is Now Live
"Is there a possibility of a trial licence? The most interesting feature is the ability to import a DEM but $2000 is a lot to test it."

Charlie replied to Forrest Frantz's discussion Vibration--Finally Solved ... The Frantz Strut
"Brilliant information and tool, thanks very much. Although my vibration damping method is primitive (blocks of hobbyking orange latex top and bottom of the pixhawk, holding it in slight tension between top and bottom plates) compared to yours…"

Charlie commented on Charlie's blog post Precision geotagging images using Emlid Reach, Canon S100, CHDK, KAP script and RTKlib – Proof of concept
"Hi Darrel, will be very interested in how Smart RTK and Reach compare! London is pretty well supplied with base stations. I did try surveying a Reach base station point and then using that to provide the reference for post processing the rover, but…"

"Thanks very much - this was the first result after an initial trial which produced surprisingly good results, so hopefully can improve things with a bit more work."

Charlie commented on Charlie's blog post Precision geotagging images using Emlid Reach, Canon S100, CHDK, KAP script and RTKlib – Proof of concept
"It was using the Reach 3.3 release, I haven't yet tried 3.4. Unfortunately the less than ideal positioning of the ground plane for the Reach antenna relative to the M8N unit causes significant degradation of the M8N performance - not to the point…"

Charlie posted a blog post
We have been using a Canon S100 running CHDK and KAP script for mapping and modelling using Pix4d for a while, and thought it might be useful to share the results of some testing of the possibility of GCP free mapping using the Canon and Emlid Reach…

Charlie replied to harry sawyer's discussion iris strange flight dynamics
"how are your vibrations? I was having a similar problem with an x8 on auto missions, particularly with a bit of wind when passing over tall trees or buildings. Copter would seem to hesitate and lose a metre or two of altitude before recovering and…"

Charlie replied to Charlie's discussion CHDK, KAP Script and accurate timestamping
"I just mean the standard canon on screen display, top left corner of the screen is a sat icon, seen in the screnshot here http://www.cnet.com/products/canon-powershot-s100/2/ showing no lock.

on the script menu, try setting shot interval to burst…"

Charlie replied to Charlie's discussion CHDK, KAP Script and accurate timestamping
"Hi there, the canon OSD (as opposed to the CHDK one) has a satellite symbol which tells you when the camera has locked on. It's usually pretty quick.

I've never changed any of the CHDK GPS settings from default, just enable GPS in the camera menus…"

Charlie commented on keeyen pang's blog post Camera Trigger and Geo Tag Images - Part 2
"Hi, if you are using an S100 do you not find the auto time update feature gives you good enough time sync to just use time offset method with an offset of zero? I have found this to be more accurate than tagging using the cam_trig messages. Usually…"

Charlie replied to Charlie's discussion 3DR Pixhawk IMU2 Accelerometer provides noisy data, worse than IMU1
"Thanks very much, it had occurred to me that the IMUs might be differently affected by the setup, I had just thought I might find someone else who had experienced this issue - the difference between flight with both IMU enabled and the just one was…"
