Joshua commented on Charles Blouin's blog post Pacific Drone Challenge
"In 1998 an Aerosonde UAV (2.7m wingspan, 20cc engine) managed to fly 3200km and cross the Atlantic ocean with 6 litres of fuel over 26 hours.
This new challenge is a little over double the distance, but with an increase in scale and more modern…"

Joshua commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Delft VTOL project uses helicopter-style main rotor for effeciency
"If you replace the helicopter prop with an EDF unit you lose finesse over thrust control, making hovering and safe landings harder. An EDF that can put out ~9kg of thrust is also going to be pretty large and almost certainly heavier than the…"

Joshua commented on Thomas J Coyle III's blog post Which came first, the drone or the PowerEgg?
"@Joe Bloeski; hold it on the top and bottom, press the button with your thumb; it unfolds, you hold it by one of it's arms or on it's main body (under the props) and manually remove the camera cover. It seems relatively intuitive to me."

While I'm not from the US, just curious about legislation there, the big difference that appears to me is that these regulations mainly or entirely apply to visible light lasers, with some regulations only applying to those sold…"

Joshua commented on Thomas J Coyle III's blog post Quanergy Announces $250 Solid-State LIDAR for Cars, Robots, and More
"@Darius Jack; can you point me towards the legislation that bans lasers in public? As it is, this system does not flash multiple lasers; not in the manner you're thinking. Rather, it uses multiple diodes (or some other emitter) to create a single…"

Joshua replied to Drew Ackerman's discussion Just for clarification - Motor and Propeller related.
"It doesn't make a difference unless they have something resembling 1-way curved surfaces for sucking in air (for cooling), in which case you want to try and get the orientation correct. Otherwise, yes, the ESCs and which ESC cable you have connected…"
