Hey guys!
I'd like to know if any of you have any opinions on open source drones on the market. I'd like to write scripts and codes for drones to complete tasks and objectives such as continuously patrolling an area and landing back at "home" without ever touching a controller. The Solo Development Kit seems like a promising option as well as the AR Parrot drone, but I want to know what other kinds there are out there. Does anyone have any input for something like this? I don't have any requirements on design (quadcopter, octocopter, etc.), but I am very interested in something like this.
~(And pricing isn't a huge deal at the moment)
Thank you!

Try the modded Eachine H8quadcopter that runs an open source firmware which can be updated. Firmware provided by silverxxx from rcgroups has the ability to fly a acro, full source code is provided for experimentation.
Have a look at ardupilot and dronekit - this is pretty much the 'standard' for opensource tasks like you're wanting to do. In fact depending on how detailed you want your tasks, you can do pretty much everything you're describing just with ardupilot and a GCS like mission planner, qgroundcontrol or apm planner2.
the proper thing to do is a market share assessment. some other guys in the pro marker is Multikopter, DJI, freefly

So what would you recommend aside from Pixhawk? I have been doing research, but like I said, I'd love to gain knowledge on other software and hardware that could help me complete tasks without manually controlling the drone
