    My first UAV plane (a soarstar/wingo) used Ardupilot V1.0 without IR sensors. The deflection of the rudder had to be turned down to almost zero though, otherwise some serious spiral diving occurred threatening to fold the wings on occasion.     I did get a few pretty successful autonomous flights with it...
  • This was how the first version of Ardupilot worked. I think that would be version 1.*. Yes it can and has worked a couple of years ago. Thermo's from FMA Direct were the first major upgrade. Now we're into 6DOF IMU's. Go back to the beginning. Version 1.0 is still here.

    autostable planes dont need assisted stabilization but without it is always a risk even in stable platforms
