WHAT IS WRONG HERE ???

I feel badly enough that most of what I post gets little or no feedback, but when I check our discussion threads like this one, I  see one potentially good idea after another with 0 Comments, 0 Comments, 0 Comments...

Is this forum dead or something ?!? Why is it that so many good posts get no real attention at all?!?

Does anyone care about anything outside of their own immediate self interest?!?

If I were to post a thread somewhere asking what auto-pilot is best, I might get who knows how many comments, but when it comes to doing something more, something better, like truly advancing the field of private/hobby drones, especially with uncommon ideas, there seems to be so little interest.

This needs to change, if that is possible.

Ideas are great, action is better, participation is best! I know it's frustrating when you have an issue you need help with and you don't receive a response, but unfortunately it's not all that unusual.

Consider this, there are over 66,000 members currently, compare that to the number of people who are actually responding to posts with suggestions or solutions, not anecdotal responses sharing your pain, and the problem becomes clear. There are many more people with questions than people to answer them. Many problems that are reported are unusual problems that don't have clear answers and were posted when the particular firmware was relatively new, which means there aren't as many users who have in depth knowledge of the firmware you're running.

For the most part the Devs use the issue tracker at https://github.com/diydrones/ardupilot/issues

It's just not possible for them to respond to every forum post and navigate the forums here.

I think people do care, personally I try to take the time when I can to find answers to questions (even when I'm not familiar with the issue), I do this because it expands my own understanding. It makes perfect sense to me that if something lies outside your individual interests, then you may not have sufficient knowledge on the topic to respond to the question. It has nothing to do with being selfish or uncaring.

Everyone has an opinion when it comes to general statements. It's when you need very specific help that the rubber hits the road and the voices go silent.

This is a DIY site after all and is largely made up of a small group of dedicated volunteers and active contributors like you and me without whom nothing would happen.

Think about this for a moment, how many of the posts that received 0 responses were ultimately solved by the user who posted the issue? Based on my personal experience I would say most get resolved by the original poster. If the original posters would update the unanswered post with a follow up solution they could help others with similar problems.

I don't think anything is wrong here, it's the nature of a volunteer forum. If peoples knowledge and interests coincide with your own then you get a lot of responses, if not, you don't. Try modifying the post, add more information and add updates as you find additional information that might help the reader understand your issue.

    • It's as Caner says, this forum grows a lot, me, at the beginning, and with my bad english had little or not response for my lots of issues as newbie but really, many times, perhaps, I didn't post my questions were people that can respond was reading, not explain well my ideas or, simply anyone else had the same interest than me, What I did? I read a lot of post, why many guys responding and try to help newbiers than me, the first day you only need help, the second day you can help how is on his first day, you don't need to be an expert, only one day more experience, that's like the forums works, users are the forum, be patient for answers, follow others and help when you can, reformulate your unresponded questions, looks what are the more interested themes from guys reading this forum and share information about that themes that you know. Many people only join the forum to resolve their issue and never write again, only read, that isn't the live of a forum. Last year I recived a lot of help from this forum and allows me to grow in knowledge a lot and enjoy my better diy drones flying. :)

      • I think my point isw being missed...

I have been seeing this COMMONLY with other people's posts.

Personally, I don;t care if its a 5-year-old's first day and first post; if he has a good idea, he has a good idea!

Otherwise, if people are ignoring good ideas just because the person isn't mr. super everything, or has not been on the forum for so long, that is just plain SNOBERY.

People post VERY good ideas, and get little or no response, and that is just not right, no matter the excuse. It discourages people, and sends them away.

What is wrong with showing someone a little support and giving them credit for a good idea?

As I see it, it directly harms the community and the whole purpose for having a forum in the first place. The private/hobby drone movement is progressing like some invalid on valium compared to its minimal potential.

If people don't wake up, get over their prejudices, and start making more of an effort to support good idea if not join in with them, one day fairly soon we may all regret it and wish that we had.

        • I have had a frustrating time with my posts on here as well. I am not saying that I give a lot of good ideas, but I just want simple feedback to some (seemingly) simple questions because I typically spend hours and hours reading all the different websites and wikis related to ArduPilot and I make very little headway. I feel like I can't be the only one who is a inexperienced and/or bad programmer. Someone had to go through the same difficulties, and I would gladly share MY difficulties and hardships if it helps someone else overcome my same issues. I am not even sure if the directions I follow online are correct because what I see is sometimes not the same as the screenshots and/or downloads that I am told should be there. So I come here to ask, but I get nothing most of the time. Hopefully it will improve with time ;-). Don't know if it is exactly related to the original discussion. I am just calling it like I see it.
