Hi,

I was thinking, is it possible to create a small box as a "follow me beacon" that sends it's current position to an ArduPilot as "append waypoint" command. The question is, what does Ardupilot do when it reaches the last waypoint in a list without this waypoint containing any instructions how to proceed? Does it automatically start loitering? Does it return home? Does it switch everything off and fall out of the sky?

  • Not sure if this helps, but APM Planner has a 'follow me' function. You could build a box, put a small netbook with a gps dongle in it, attach a set of 3dr radios, and hey presto, your aircraft will follow you around!

  • 100KM

"Does it switch everything off and fall out of the sky?" :D :D That would explain a lot!

On reaching the last waypoint it returns home, if programmed using the APM Planner.

  • i know on mission planner you canset theactions on reachimg the waypoint, circle x times, rtb, go to waypoint x and so on.

i would assume this action on will be part of the mavlink message, its worth lookin through the mavlink documentation fo the waypoint messages to see if this is the case and how to construct the appropriate message.

    hope this helps a bit
