I have an APM1 on a fully assembled ArduCopter.  Never flown.  Never connected.  This has been sitting in the box for 2 years.  MissionPlanner 1.2.16 is installed.  COM4 appears when I plug into the board.  The board lights up and appears alive and well.  Device Manager settings for COM4 are 115200, 8N1, no flow control.  I cannot get MissionPlanner to connect nor can I get any response in Terminal (within MissionPlanner).  The tiny TX light does blink on the APM1 when I hit a key in Terminal, which would seem to indicate it sees data.  But I get nothing.

So I'm stuck here.  Cannot procede to get this unit flying.  Any suggestions?
