Motor + Prop Additional Hardware

This group has been a great help to me as I have been getting started over the past month, much appreciated. I'm still a little unsure of what hardware I'm going to need for my quadcopter build, such as motor mounts, screws, and what I need to attach the propellers to the motor shaft.

I'm planning to use the Hobbyking x525 frameTURNIGY Plush 25amp Speed Controller, etc...

First, I'm confused on which motor I should be getting.  Since I want higher RPMs I'm thinking inrunners, and on the x525 product page they specify "28-XX 1100~1300KV Brushless motor" so which of these are a good bet?  Or am I looking in the wrong place?

And then how can I determine which props are compatible?

Finally, will I need additional hardware to attach the prop to the motor shaft?

I assume that all I will need is screws to attach the motor to the frame.

Other than that, APMv2 and 3DR radio bundle are all planned out.

I'm still working on understanding batteries, but I'll get the hang of them.

Sorry for yet another noob post but I haven't been able to find that much information specific to my questions here.

Thanks in advance,

Ray

  • Sorry about the bad link....

The 2.0 also has metal motor mounts with recessed holes which is a very good thing. You are going to need a radio...No way around that. And For it's price the Turnigy 9x cant be beat, but I also have one of these as a Backup and at 22.99 it is the cheapest Radio you'll find that will meet your needs, It's still a 2.4 ghz  and later on you swap out one of the switches and get up to 6 modes. but for now you'll at least have 2. This is the BEC That I use (there actually labeled UBEC) And it has the right voltage and amperage....But it's not necessary, and generally people just use the one that's built into every one of your ESC's unless they run into a problem...Use the money to buy that Talon V 2.0 frame! I mean it's the center of your quad, and everything you buy will be riding on it so it's worth it.

Also I meant to link you to the XT60 plugs

There $3.19 for a 5 pack, and it's what you use instead of a deans connector. You can use Deans if you want, I chose these because there a tighter fit (IMO) and The distribution board already has one as it's connector to the battery.

  • Ive been using these Turnigy 2217 16 turn 1050 KV 23A Outrunners

And they are sweet! When I first got them I was a little confused because It comes with all kinds of hardware that allows you mount the prop either to the shaft, or to the other side of the motor (take a close look at them on my copter) which allows you to attach a 4 screw mount to the can, which also has a threaded prop shaft coming out of it! Perfect alignment ever time and man these things are powerful.

I also used the Turnigy Talon 2.0 ($50) frame along with what I think is the best landing gear and 2 axis camera gimbal from the lunar explorer. I got a little creative with my sonar mount using pieces from another carbon frame and Im pretty happy with results, and especially the survivability.
