Before Posting an Issue

Hi All,

Before posting an issue or a problem in the ArduRover Discussion Forum, please check the wiki table of contents, review the firmware release notes in the subforum, and search that subforum for existing answers to your question. Help avoid duplicate threads by finding other members with the same issue and their solution.

When formulating your post, use a descriptive title such as "rover will not navigate to waypoints in the Auto mode" (not "HELP!" or "Problem").

Please include the following information to help diagnose your query:

  • Describe the problem you are having. What is the expected verses the observed behavior?
  • Provide hardware information such as the brand and version of your autopilot, GPS, radio, and compass, as well as any other pertinent details about your rover setup.
  • What version of the APM: ArdurRover2 firmware version are you running?
  • For navigation issues, provide your tlog and/or dataflash log. Click here for instructions on retrieving a dataflash log.

  • I know this is low on the list of priorities, but I hope a developer can find time to work on a rover running in reverse to a WP.

    That's great. I noticed a different behavior when switching from stable release to latest. Love having the option to restart or continue. Now I know how. Thanks Tridge.

    Dear rover enthusiasts,

    today it is now two years ago since Jean-Louis Naudin published the first version of the APMrover2 code here.

    Since then we have gone through a number of releases, countless fixes, new features, hundreds hours of discussing, developing and testing.

    I just wanted to take the oppotunity to thank all the people that were involved in the past years and especially
    Andrew Tridgell and Tom Coyle for many hours of hacking and tireless testing between our weekly rover hangouts!

    I also want to thank Greg Brill for giving us the newest toys to play with and Mike McCauley for his work on the flymaple port.

    Without you guys we could not get to where we are today with the rover, it is a real joy to be a part of the rover team and im looking forward to get it even better.

    We hope to see your rover on the track soon and wish you a always safe ride!

  • Thanks for your responses and patience.  I appreciate your suggestions.

    I have added way points and still get the same results - hold instead of auto mode, therefore cannot even start a mission.

    @TCIII yes, PWM output is correct, I can select mode for all three switch positions.

    @dr0n3droid Top switch position in flight modes setup says Auto (green), but Flight data screen (lower right) shows HOLD for this switch position (and I cannot start a mission ( but have been able to in the past, before upgrading to MP 1.3.0)

    New Surprise:  Upon starting up MP today, I got this for the first time and I am wondering if it might be the cause of my problems...

     Note that "allowing" does not solve my problem.  Windows arrrgh!

  • Running out of ideas. I have experienced this before. Here's no trick to it, we're just missing something here.
    Do you have a mission uploaded?
    AUTO will HOLD at the end of the mission. I'm thinking that if there are no WPs, mission accomplished. Therefore the instant HOLD.

    Just to confirm, you say it should be in AUTO, MP says it should be in AUTO, but flight mode switch always returns HOLD?
  • Thanks for the responses, but still no joy.  Here are results of latest tests:

    3 position mode switch settings using initial setup> mandatory hardware> flight modes:

    Case A:

    Top position set to Auto

    Mid position set to Learning

    Bot position set to manual

    Case B:  (just the above case inverted)

    Top position set to manual

    Mid position set to Learning

    Bot position set to Auto

    In both the above cases, I cannot switch to Auto with the Tx.  It will only indicate "hold" in the flight data screen.  If switch is set to learning or manual and I turn off the transmitter, the modes remain in learning or manual respectively - they do not go to "hold".

    This is with MP 1.2.99, Win 8.0, APM rover 2.45, 3DR radio, battery powered APM 2.5, no USB connection, 3D GPS fix.  Manual and learning modes work as expected, but no Auto (which I did have at one time in the past.)

    Here again is the screen shot from earlier tests. Note how current mode says HOLD and Flight mode 1 says Auto.  (And yes, I have been saving the modes (although I get no confirmation of saving):

  • AUTO will failsafe to HOLD. As TCIII mentioned Tx failsafe, but also of you try AUTO before acquiring GPS lock.
  • Yes - Rx connected.  I can ( and have)  changed modes with Tx now and in the past.  Have a close look at the screen shot.

    It seems that something has changed since MP 2.9.x, although I have reverted back to MP 2.9.9 and get same symptoms.

    I really am stymied here and would appreciate your help.

    I can no longer set auto mode.  Parameter "MODE1" =10 (auto) and initial setup>flight modes> Flight mode box 1 shows Auto, BUT flight data screen and initial setup>flight modes>Current mode shows HOLD

New rover advice

Hi, i am looking to build a new rover, but i need some advice on the chassis. I like the 4wd chassis/tank look and prefer it over the crawler/rc look.are those any good though? most people recommend crawlers.I am looking to get something from banggood, any advice will be highly appreciated. thanks

skid steer vehicle steering uncontrollable

Hi all, I have a skid steer robot using a pixhawk cube, one 1x15 roboclaw motor controller and a dagu wild thumper 4 wheel chassis. I have skid steering working so far, testing motor c and motor d tests works as described and the vehicle can be controlled in manual mode. However, upon using any mode other than manual mode the rover wants to shake and pivot on the spot, and it seems the steering PID controller oscillates and these oscillations get larger. i have tried everything but it is still…

Traxxas X-Maxx ROVER ESC advice

Hi,I have converted a Traxxas X-Maxx into a rover using the Pixhawk Cube 2 controller kit with a Here GNSS.I swapped out the original X-Maxx remote controller for an X6R receiver and Taranis QX7 radio.latest version of ArduRover firmware installed as of 8/11/18.  The rover has an EZRun Max6 ESC. The problem now is the ESC control over the transition into reverse. Help! No throttle or steering response!

Hi all.I know this is an Adurover group, but Thought I would reach out and try my odds for some help as I'm perplexed by this problem. I have a Traxxas X-Maxx set up with a Pixhawk Cube 2.1 and the Here GPS.
