  The GoPro is there just for scale.... I have some video of it in flight too, just uploading now I will blog it soon :)

   

  I don't think a cat will cover this frame, maybe a Muntjac..........:)

  Absolutely Martin, so long as woven glass is used correctly there will be a large amount of strength running along the direction of the fibres. The CSM (shop strand matting) in fibre glass kits has very little structual strength and relies heavily on the polyester resin. Minimal epoxy should be used with CF.

  Scuse my absence - work mental!

  Yup those frames looks good, and since I'm crashing less frequently it might be OK for me these days. Will it float do you know martin? (or for that matter, blend?, haha)

  Dean the tri from Jakub is the foldable one, its really nice as although it isn't very strong its very easy to rebuild, cheap and fast. Its also really light. Its slightly smaller than your tri by the looks of it, just under 60cm motor to motor. Even if you just bought some arms (£3 each I think) and screwed them to your centre plate it would defo stop your motors flying off) What size props are you using dean? I've found the 10" ones from quadcopter.co.uk to be pretty strong whilst cheap. Also the 12" ones from RCTimer are not bad either. 

  Actually I intend to buy some proper ones soon, any tips? I might try to find some of those carbons ones Marco is using.

  The Fibre Glass covered in CF that’s an interesting point, Rob from reading your posts I guess you must know the additional properties that "composite" materials bring, I was talking to an aerospace engineer the other day, he has worked on a few iconic planes over the years including Concord and a few more modern planes like the A380, I though the same as you about CF and Glass Fibre being the filling in the “sandwich”, and this was done to reduce cost, I was extremely surprised when he told me how the use of one or more materials added between CF sheets gives additional strength and advantages over pure CF, even the lay of the weave will have a massive effect on the strength of a part!

  I have no real experience with CF, so moving forward I’m talking to a lot of people on this subject, the one point which has made me smile here, which I do get asked a lot of the time, “will it break in a crash”….. I reply, “it’s designed to fly not be crashed”. I think in the past 18 years of flight I have seen crashes and crashed more times than I would like to remember, all of the air frames were binned or fixed depending on the damage.... more binned than fixed :(

  I can think of no airframe apart from the DJI Flame wheels that will put up with a crash and not need to be replaced as it would be a total wreck if coming in hard, and even then there seems to be a steady order stream for the arms on the Flame Wheels, so even these seem to get broken, I’m sure we have seen the frame of a Flame wheel thrown from the office building window in to the car park to show how strong they are. I will put on under some “stress” when I have a moment, we shall see what they can / can’t do :)

  I make all sorts from the stuff.

  Please dont get me wrong, im not passing judgment on the frames.......yet;) They look ace and im sure they've been developed for the application. It just bugs the hell out of me when i see what's supposed to decent CF and turns out to be fibreglass tat with CF cover for hundreds of pounds. Many motorcycle parts for example.
