Spun in my X8

I spun in my X8 yesterday while in auto mode. I had just crossed a fix and the plane started a turn and snap, I was spinning. I tried full direction travel in all four corners, and with power a few times. Nothing seemed to stop it. It was only slightly damaged after landing directly on top of a building. The kevlar nose sure helps! I'm not sure what happened. I'll post the log. Maybe you guys can help me figure this out. I thought my CG was fine.

Funny retreving story, my crazy friend scaled the wall of the building for one story, then climbed up an external pipe up the second story to the roof. This was probably 50 feet up a brick building. He threw off the x8 while I flew it down to a nice landing. Then he finds a hatch in the roof, and just jumps down it and lands in a dark room, finds a door, forces it open only to find out he is shoving an office desk that is jammed up against it. The office is full of people staring at him, so he just runs out. The crazy experiences you have flying FPV!

  • Ohh man! Glad to hear you didn't have any damage. I had a real bad spin about a month ago. I was pretty high, and couldnt get it out. I ended up crashing in the middle of a prison. God what a mess. Destroyed the plane and cause quite a commotion with the prison. They thought I might be up to no good, like dropping things to the prisoners. They kept my SD card for a week, but the file was corrupted from the crash. When I got it back I fixed it. I need to upload the video.

  • I spun my X8 today too.  Using the PID parameters here (these are good except nav & throttle for me).

CoG was about 10mm behind the front two finger holes, where I have had it before with a smaller motor, battery, prop combination, and about 250g lighter.  I was in stabilise, turning from base to upwind, caught a gust, stalled and dropped a wing.  I thought APM might catch it with gentle application of throttle but no luck. With hindsight I should have flicked straight to manual as I am pretty certain I could have recovered! Thankfully no damage at all, shuffled the battery forwards an inch and it flew fine.  I tried to induce the spin again but couldn't, so I think this was purely a CoG issue, and the APM was unable to recover due to it not being programmed to, or the control surfaces being blanked perhaps?

On a side note, I find it quite amusing seeing the data log from this! lol3692581640?profile=original
