About Me:

I am 55 and I have lots of time for myself. I have a technical background (including software) but I am new at building my own quadcopter, specifically the UAV type.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I am a novice at building my quadcopter. I love to learn and understand all the small details of what I am doing. However, I might ask basic questions at time so, I am asking for your patience. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I would like to know how to determine the propeller size (diameter) with an electric motor? Is there a way to calculate the propeller size to optimally take advantage of the motor power with the best propeller size? Thank you.

"Thank you for your input. I think that an APU could be a nice solution to my power problem. I have looked on the web and there is some work about “Micro Gas Turbine Generator”. Some are a work in progress but they are light, small (less than 5 sq.…"

For hobbyists who have experience building electric copters in an X4 or X8 configurations, I would have a question for you.I assume that most hobbyists want to build their UAV as 1) powerful, 2) lighter and 3) cheaper as possible. But let’s say that…

I went to Hoverfly's website and I discovered that one of their Quadcopter (X8) has its propellers in a wide "V" shape, rather than the usual straight shape. Does anybody had a chance to see (or build) one of them? What is the…

In a quad configuration, if one motor fails, can it continue to fly on only 3 motors? Thanks.

I have used eCalc and came up with, I think, a nice combination of components for a single copter. The result in the attachment is for a single motor. If I want to make a quad copter and want to increase the flight time, I could multiple this…

I am using the ecalc website to check the parameters for battery, motor, ESC and props but I always end up with the warning " The Power is not sufficient to hover " or sometime " Static Thrust < Drive Weight ". I tried to change the spec of the…

For a beginner like me, it is sometime frustrating to try to figure out what acronyms mean. Is there a document(s) that explain things like ESC with or without a BEC. What a BEC means? I would appreciate your input in this matter. Thanks.

I have noticed that most people are talking about a flight time (or mission time) for a Quadcopter in the range of 30 minutes. If I want to increase the flight time, it is not as simple as doubling or tripling the batteries. Additional batteries…

If I want to connect proximity sensors, one for each rotor to detect objects sideway, one on top and one on bottom, how many ports do I need? Can they be read on a multiplexer fashion? Are they connected on the autopilot or on the FC? Do they (Ardu…
