About Me:

I've been interested in things that fly for years, and robotics for slightly less time. As a computer engineering student, I'm building the formal background necessary to enter the field of robotics as a profession, and have to take my creativity out on something! As a result, Ive been fiddling with various microcontroler projects and small mobile robots for a while now, and am looking to fuse it with my interest in RC planes and helis (which I fly).

Borgel commented on Chris Anderson's blog post FAQ: What's the difference between a gyro and an accelerometer? Do I need both?
"Do you know of any good sources of information on fusing the data from an accelerometer with that of a gyro?"

"Chris:
Ok, that certainly makes the thermopile seem to be the appealing option. As we discussed at the Maker Fair, it seems that, in principle atleast, thermopiles should work anywhere there is an IR gradient, including inside.

Dan:
That makes…"

"Ha! See, I did visit the site!

Thanks for the link to the Paparazzi wiki, Ill dig around some and what they've got on the subject of thermopiles and sensing in general. It looks to be quite useful.

As for gyros, I suppose Ill keep doing my…"

Borgel commented on Borgel's blog post The Current Project
"Thats part of what Im trying to determine. I happened to have a 3 axis accelerometer lying around (Parallax's Hitachi H48C board), so thats going to be used, but I need to figure out what I need in terms of a gyro or other inertial sensors. is there…"

So my current project is to scratch build a small QuadCopter. The physical structure is allready built in a preliminary form, and it will do just fine for preliminary testing. Currently, its made of square wood dowel and Speed 400 size motors with…

Borgel commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Introducing ArduPilot: the world's cheapest autopilot!
"Ah, ok. I'm just collecting knowledge.
The SIRFIII seems to be the chipset of choice (and Sparkfun the supplier)."

"Very nice board!

Out of curiosity, is there any particular reason you chose that GPS module?"

Borgel replied to uzi1978's discussion UAV helicopter
"I'm pursuing the same goal through slightly different means. After seeing so many fantastically cool 4 rotor helicopters, I finally convinced myself to get the parts, so now I have a scratchbuilt and nigh untested quadcopter sitting in the corner of…"
