About Me:

I am an Engineering student at UBC in Vancouver. I was originally an Animal Biologist, but following my recent immersion into aerial photography and videography, I am now in pursuit of an Integrated Engineering degree (a mix of mechanical and electrical in my case, specializing in aerodesign and autonomous systems). It's a lot of school, but I have fun at the same time, perhaps too much fun... My AP interests derive from a background in photography: www.chrisborchert.com

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I have a Trex 600E aerial photography platform and I run a small AP business in Vancouver with a fellow student. We are just getting started now, but with much support from UBC and a handful of local businesses we are ready to start taking bigger steps. I am also a dedicated member of UBC's AeroDesign engineering student team. This year, I will be taking the lead on automated flight control for a UAV that we are building from the ground up to compete in the Unmanned Systems Canada competition next spring.

Chris Borchert replied to Daniel Degallier's discussion Pixhawk Idle speed too fast? Increases throttle on its own
"Solved the problem, and there are two separate issues at play here:

1) The throttle seems to increase after idling because you are in stabilize mode and the Pixhawk sees that it is not perfectly level.
It may be hard to see this if your idle speed…"

Chris Borchert replied to Daniel Degallier's discussion Pixhawk Idle speed too fast? Increases throttle on its own
"Hi Daniel Degallier,
I seem to have the same thing happening with a quadcopter here. Idle speed seems unreasonably high, and the motor speed keeps increasing without change in throttle pwm after idle start. Have you found the source of this…"

"@Jure Jerman I'm just getting back to my telemetry setup after having it on the back seat for the last couple months. I have the IO board & FrSky Vario but I'm still not sure how to connect everything to the X8R and APM. Any chance you could send me…"

"Nils Högberg thanks for answering my question!  One last thing, once I have the smartport vario, where do the rx and tx connections from the ioboard go (perhaps they connect to the data in port)? Can I simultaneously connect two frsky voltage…"

"Nils Högberg did you get APM telemetry working with the X8R receiver? I've been scouring the internet for information on how to do this and now it is time to ask for help! I have the jDrones ioboard, but I'm not sure how to connect it to the X8R and…"

"It's awesome to see the developments in this thread!  I've been MIA on the forum for a while but I've been reading all of the updates via email.  It's been a crazy two months and I haven't had time to pass my throttle control through the APM channel…"

"Just wanted to give a quick update on my 600 FB aerial rig.  I played around with RATE_PIT_FF and RATE_RLL_FF yesterday and it resulted in the smoothest and most stable flight I've ever had with the APM 2.5 installed!  Lots of power and great pilot…"

"Robert:
I had a bit of an issue yesterday where I lost some control of my heli because it was a little windy and I did not have enough control over the swash (not enough swash movement to fight the wind and my heli went off in the wind direction).…"
