John A. Malley commented on Chris Anderson's blog post WSJ scoop on forthcoming FAA rules -- pilots license will be required for commercial use unless Congress intervenes
"I should be more clear about the need for a pilot's understand of the "rules of the road" and controlled airspace.
We owe a duty of care to third parties and their property whenever we use a UAS with a UAV.  We should take "reasonable" steps to make…"

John A. Malley commented on Chris Anderson's blog post WSJ scoop on forthcoming FAA rules -- pilots license will be required for commercial use unless Congress intervenes
"A pilot's license isn't needed so much as is a pilot's understanding of controlled airspace and the "rules of the road." I think in the long run we in the USA will see something similar to the rules in 14 CFR PART 101- MOORED BALLOONS, KITES,…"

"Wow, we talked about this very issue today day one of "UAS Applications, Operations and Support: Key Topics of Industry," a two day course offered by Embry-Riddle, in Renton, WA (outside Seattle.) I can understand the comment in the NRC report.
We…"

John A. Malley commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Why drones weren't allowed to fly at the Washington mud slides
"I think Stuart Brookes "hit the nail on the head." Why aren't folks as worried about helicopters or fixed-wing airplanes flying over and taking pictures with telephoto lenses?  Why aren't they worried about meta-data amalgamation? Maybe because it's…"

John A. Malley commented on John A. Malley's blog post Analysis of body axis yaw rate on quadcopter controllability in normal and single motor or prop failure case
"@André Bertelsen - Thanks for pointing me to L1-AC and the on-line lectures. Google shows there's activity in applying it to quadrotors as well as fixed-wing UAVs.  I read two papers this weekend with strikingly different takes on L1-AC The first is…"

John A. Malley commented on John A. Malley's blog post Analysis of body axis yaw rate on quadcopter controllability in normal and single motor or prop failure case
"Off the top of my head, I don't know. We would want to look at the moments of inertia for the tricopter and the body axis attitude accelerations in terms of the cross-products of pitch and roll rates when the tricopter has a body-axis yaw rate."

The ETH video demonstrating a new algorithm to save a quadcopter after a single motor or prop failure didn’t reveal the algorithm. It did get me thinking about the quadcopter dynamics after a motor or prop failure.  My analysis starts with the model…

"It is a small space telescope, comparable to putting my Meade LX90GPS into LEO is how I thought about it. Should get a much better view outside a significant  portion of the atmosphere. It will carry a 5 Megapixel CCD camera. PR expects its…"

And if I did, I apologize Monroe, I don't know how I did that.
Could you re-post your comment?"
