me commented on Gerard Toonstra's blog post Cheap 1-2cm (scale) accuracy for your surveys
"Nice summary, which antennas do you use and can you post a picture of your control point rig in the field and close up?"

me commented on Walter Volkmann's blog post HOW ACCURATE ARE YOUR MAPS AND MODELS?
"@Walter,

Very interesting. Have you run any tests in tall grass or another non-hard landcover? You essentially tested absolute accuracy of the system but my guess is that both horizontal and vertical accuracy radically decreases in a tall…"

me commented on Walter Volkmann's blog post HOW ACCURATE ARE YOUR MAPS AND MODELS?
"Depending on how you surveyed the GCPs, you're within the error of the test data. RTK GPS would have precisions on that level. Are you running dual-frequency RTK on the UAS, using targets, or simple L1 code positioning on the UAS?"

me commented on LightWare - Laser Developer's blog post The A B C of laser altimeters
"How was accuracy and range determined for real world applications as discussed above? How do you know the height of the aircraft when ideally the laser should be more precise and accurate than barometer or GPS (even RTK GPS)?"

me commented on CSGShop's blog post 18Hz 72-channel GPS/QZSS L1 C/A, GLONASS L10F BeiDou B1 SBAS L1 C/A: WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS receiver avail from Ublox factory...
"Does it (or can it) have raw timing data and carrier phase L1?"

me commented on Gerard Toonstra's blog post Accuracy evaluation: is better than 5cm possible with uav's?
"For those looking to compare DSM/DEM models from one sensing method to another, remember that LIDAR and the photogrammetry-derived raster DSM/DEM are based on points which are interpolated. The native format of the data is not a raster. As such, you…"

me commented on Gerard Toonstra's blog post Accuracy evaluation: is better than 5cm possible with uav's?
"You're talking about internal precision of the model right? Not fundamental accuracy? Did you evaluate accuracy using independent high-precision GPS points not used for georeferencing? How did you calculate these metrics?

Your error certainly…"

me replied to Ken Gaines's discussion ESRI Shapefiles in MP
"The tool ogr2ogr is an example of a tool developed using OGR that happens to be distributed with OGR/GDAL itself.

At its heart, OGR/GDAL is a geospatial data translation library designed to be used by other software (e.g., MP) and not necessarily…"

me replied to Ken Gaines's discussion ESRI Shapefiles in MP
"To be clear, WGS84 is not a projection. It is a coordinate system/datum based on an ellipsoid. The Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate system has a Mercator projection and is a Cartesian coordinate system built on top of the WGS84…"

me replied to Ken Gaines's discussion ESRI Shapefiles in MP
"SpatiaLlite is primarily used within the QGIS / open source GIS world. Export from ArcGIS requires the Data Interoperability extension (+$2000, death to ESRI!). Not arguing but I would personally add KML or spatial JSON instead of SpatialLite. Here…"

me replied to Ken Gaines's discussion ESRI Shapefiles in MP
"That's the other advantage of using a library like OGR. File GBB has an api from ESRI and supposedly the format has been reverse engineered in an open source way but all formats are challenging and homogenizing them to work within an application…"

me replied to Ken Gaines's discussion ESRI Shapefiles in MP
"If you're going to bring geospatial formats in, please use OGR/GDAL instead of implementing things one format at a time.
