Combined 900MHz RC Tx and data modem, plugs into buddy cord from Tx and USB to laptop for GCS. Eliminates the 72MHz or 2.4GHZ receiver and transmitter.

    What is the performance of this system ? I mean there are many many data types being transmitted by the airborne plane to the ground station and you have limited data throughput, how you have managed ?

    Try L-com. They have a 900MHz 8dbi patch antenna for `$54 plus shipping which is cheaper than a Yagi, but has lower gain.

  • David, I use a dipole for now, for long range I'll use a yagi. The Digi 900MHz modem is a 1 watt tranceiver, 40 mile LOS range at 9600 baud, shorter at 115.2K baud.
  • Good point Jack, the cable is a pain. Why didn't I think of that? Again the KISS principal reins. I'll make the changes to the next round of hardware redesigns.
  • Tethering a transmitter to a data modem? Always wondered why the pros did that when they could just take the original RC receiver & tether it to the data modem. The cost of a bunch of servo cables would be covered by the freedom to roam & not have to support different buddy box protocols.

    dipole or patch or yagi?
    i am using dipole antenna for my 2.4ghz xbee modem(ground and plane) but their performance is bit disappointing.
