This photo shows the original wheels (which were full of river water) and a new set. They are not symetrical from the factory because it only has one wheel drive. I chose to order a new set than try to make the pentagon insert on my own. I also found the pressure fittings for sale at Tractor Supply Company. It's hard not to destroy them when removing them, and the originals were just rust. I believe that the pedel driven version of this toy uses two of the other inserts. The pedel driven version was very promising as a drive train, but I couldn't get the part, and I didn't want to risk my kids ankles getting hit by the pedals.
