About Me:

I'm a dad. I've worked in computer forensics, law enforcement, insurance, renewable energy (photovoltaics), and shoveled horse manure. For now, I'm struggling to get a Ph.D. in Political Science and have a family.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I am an amature techie. I recently found a peg perego child's ride-on toy (a john deere tractor) floating in the river while walking with my kids. I restored it to running, and made a few improvements (2xWheel drive now vs 1x, new axle, wheels gearboxes, better battery). I purchased a motor controller, a 10 watt solar panel, charge controller. I'm still deciding how to stear (2 motors only like a tank, or 2 + something on the stearing column, but still enable my daughter to turn it when riding) I've become obsessed with the idea of making it into a robot (a rover), and I can't stop reading about it. I've tinkered with an arduino before. I want it to be able to mow the lawn, shovel the sidewalk from snow, or follow me to class and carry my books. My daughter wants it to climb steps. She has been a fearless test pilot. She can't hear me while she's drifting (j/k), so I'd also like to be able to usurp control and steer her to safety on occassion. Peter Singer (wired for war) is my favorite political scientist.

"@Johnnybulba, that's exactly what I use and I think it works great.  Friends that have used it say they like mine better than earlier versions of the fat sharks.  Perhaps they would be brighter if you tinkered with your powersupply.  The USB power…"

I want to share my FPV setup I built on a small budget which uses some Virtual I/O iGlasses made in 1995.  I bought these in 2001 for about ~$75 and they are 600x800 in resolution and 120htz (60htz per eye).  They are capable of displaying 3D video…

The picture to the right is a small photovoltaic charge controller in the tractor (right).  It was made by lyncom around 2001 a company possibly purchased by Kyocera.  It is pretty much a toy, but the resin encapsulation is similar to higher…

"Joshua, that would definately be a case of "the blind leading the blind".  I'm glad to help.  The best advice I have is to get one and check out the tutorials at adafruit.  They're so inexpensive ($40) that I think it will find a place pretty…"

"Hi Eduardo,
I'm sorry it's been so long that I don't really remember much except the dissapointment.  I would discourage you from using it for anything too creative or too far of a departure from their site.  The file will be read, but maybe…"

Liam Honecker commented on JP's blog post Geo-referenced Tetra Cam ADC Multi-spectral Imagery (Drone Agriculture/Farming)
"That's a beautiful image.  Next you need to put the spectral index for marijuana into the wild and you'll create a drone market for liberals and conservatives. Instead of mapquest, you'll have potquest.  Tomtom's will be declaring drug users have…"
