These ESC's came with a balance connector which apparently can control battery drain at the individual cell level so that all cells end up with the same voltage.

Ditched these balance connectors completely and ended up using a cheap lipo alarm which shows red led's when it's time to land and beeps loudly when the battery gets below the safe lipo cell voltage. Hopefully no more puffed up cells.
