Today's tri rotor frame

How does a tri rotor work? You'll notice in every photo there is a special magic tail servo. That servo aims the tail thrust left & right to produce yaw. The pros call it "thrust vectoring". Thrust vectoring is more efficient than using counter rotating blades because the servo weighs less than a full power plant & each power plant runs at a more efficient RPM.

Tri rotors handle the same as quad rotors. This one flies 10% longer than a quad rotor using the same parts.

  • Jack, how do you counter the rotational force produced by the tail rotor? Do you just angle the blade such that there's a horizontal thrust component to counter the rotational force? I tried building a very small tricopter using engines from those mini helicopters. Unfortunately, they all rotated in the same direction and it was hopeless. I like the vectoring idea, though.
