A detailed look at Pixracer

The video below (enable audio!) shows a detailed overview of the new Pixracer flight controller.

It is the 4th generation of the Pixhawk flight controller family (make: FMUv4) and like the first generations designed by the Pixhawk Open Hardware team in collaboration with an international dev team. It supports the PX4 and APM flight stacks. If you like to try PX4 on it, follow the user guide.

  • Looks nice, Swift ! I´ve been thinking about rubber fan mount screws for vibration damping.

    http://www.ebay.de/itm/8Pcs-Silicone-Rubber-Cooling-Fan-Screws-Moun...

Not ideal, but pretty cheap and there are a lot of different types.

  • It does seem better!  still some issues.
I'll talk about it in the 3.3 beta thread.

  • Well, just try the master of today. Old one used to forget some settings. But well, its alpha.  Arducopter v4 still has quite some flaws and therefore you have to keep on trying. Or move on to PX4 . PX4 stack setup is running fine already.

  • I cannot get APM to work with pixracer.
I calibrate the compass.  I can look at the parameters in the parameter list in either QGC or MP, and they are there....
But it keeps telling me the compass is not calibrated.   And sometimes, after rebooting, the offsets are actually all gone and back to 0.  But, not always!!

Should 3.4 alpha be working, or is this just an issue w/ using the alpha software?
I'm trying to determine if my board is bad, or if it's a software issue.

And what's strange (to me w/ my lack of info) is that it's only the magnetometer and accelerometer info that gets reset... it remembers my RC config and tuning, etc.  Does that get saved in a different location, or what is up with that?

  • I mean which serial port in MissionPlanner to configure to use FrSky instead of MavLink to be able to use the inbuild FrSky support of the PixRacer.

In the schematic it seems that Serial4 is used:

    3702179442?profile=original

But the inverter is connected to USART8 of the processor:

    3702179748?profile=original

So I'm wondering, which port to configure in MissionPlanner ( maybe Serial4).

  • Depends. Check your hardware manager:

3702179857?profile=originalMine is COM 33, but that depends on your PC. Btw., I´m not sure if its possible to load Arducopter FW with MP already, did not try. It does connect and show PX4Stack values though.

  • Hi gervais,

do you know which port to use in MP for ArduCopter and PixRacer?

  • 3702179981?profile=originalPixRacer FrSky S.Port

  • Telemetry is now working with the PX4 Flight Stack, but Compass is still an issue, calibrated it for 30 times now with no luck.

In ArduCopter I can disable the internal Compass I guess, but I have no idea which serial port is the FrSky telemetry port (need to switch it to FrSky D-Bus protokol)... will try that later.

  • Hi PX4

I bought one of these nice tiny boards.

It came with a bunch of cables, so it was no problem to connect everything.

    I only have 2 issues:

    1) I Cannot calibrate the compass. After finalizing all steps, I get the following messages:

    ...

[cal] right side done, rotate to a different side
[cal] right side done, rotate to a different side
[cal] ERROR: Excessive offset for mag 1
    [cal] calibration failed: mag

I also tried it via ArduCopter, and it seems, that the on-board compass has an issue (the external one -from GPS- seems to work).

    Any idea, what's going wrong?

    2) With the "Master" branch, the FrSky Telemetry is not working any more (with the stable branch it works perfectly)

    Any help is appreciated :-)

    Thomas
