Adding more features to IOBoard

IOBoard Let's make it better... We need testers...

Awhile ago we made first translating program for IOBoard and since that people have been using it as it was and/or modifying its open software. Now that we have more and more devices supporting FrSky telemetry, converting becomes more fun.

So let's make it. Current roadmap for IOBoard is:

- Have full support for MAVLink/FrSky conversion

- LED driver with configurable patterns

- OpenTX, er9X support

- TLD-02 display support

- Updated Configurator

Currently tested features on Taranis radio:

Heading, Temperature 1, Temperature 2 (shows satellites/fix type), Armed/Disarmed and Throttle values,

Lat/Lon, Altitude, Voltage, Cell volt (avg), Speed

jD-IOBoard can be found from jDrones store

Latest MAVLink/FrSky software is IOBoard_FrSkyMAVLink.v03a

software can also be found from arducodes repository at google code

Let us know how it works and if you have ideas, post it on..

  • hi pat

Use Xloader to upload HEX file  http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/arduino-xloader

Uploading Arduino HEX files with XLoader
Uploading Arduino HEX files with XLoader
  • Yes
  • Yes thank you but do I use this to load the hex file
    http://arducodes.googlecode.com/files/jD-IOBOard%20setup.exe

If not what do i use to actually use to load the HEX program ?

    Many thanks in anticipation
  • Hello Pat,  The HEX file is a program that is transfered to the IOBoard via a Programmer, like FTDI adapter.  This is used to put the Program(Application to work with LED's etc) onto the device.  All the talk about Hex Files is updates that Jani et al are making and having people test it out by placing that HEX(Program) on the IOBoard.

Hope that clears things up for you.  If you don't have a FTDI adapter, there are very inexpensive at Sparkfun (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9716)  there are two kids, 5v and 3v or ones that can do both.

    Cheers.

SparkFun FTDI Basic Breakout - 5V
This is a basic breakout board for the FTDI FT232RL USB to serial IC. The pinout of this board matches the FTDI cable to work with 5V Arduino boards.
  • Hi Jani

Great work, I've just installed FrSky telemetry to a LED v2 on a Turnigy 9XR with an APM 2.5.2 FC board using Arduino code

You work looks great but I don't understand what you are using with the hex files with ???

    Could somebody please enlighten me

    Thanks in anticipation

Pascal, yes why not. I just have not tested and looked Spektrum telemetry system yet. If you have any documents that I can take a look please let me know.

  • @ Jami Hirvinen

Is it also technical possible to connect IOBoard to telemetry of Spectrum?

  • @ Jani Hirvinen

Is http://code.google.com/p/arducodes/ updated with latest v0.4a?

What I would like to change pattern for the R and L arms, then i need to recompile - or is i missing something?

  • Wow, Ive ordered a few boards to install on my gear, I have a question re LED power, I have 4x 1w 3.3v led's would these work per channel or am I best to connect in series and run via 3S to reduce current loading

  • Hello Jani,

It is normal to have to restart the ioboard to display the data in the screen of FrSky? Whenever I change the battery of the APM data stop being displayed after connecting the APM ioboard then restart the data back to be displayed in the display ..
