The 'new style' connector is on the top, the old style is on the side. See http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/common-apm25_overview/#APM_26. You will need a DF13 5-6 cable. Email help@3drobotics.com

Tony: APM has two GPS ports (both top and side). The one at the top is for compatibility with older GPS modules. You should use the one on the side, which is for the current modules.

  • The cable on the GPS is a 6 pin port but the port on the APM is a 5 pin.  The instructions shipped with the APM 2.6 indicates a 5-6 cable and I received 6-6 cables.  I am clearly using the correct port it is marked GPS  (hard to miss).

Tony, I think you're plugging it into the wrong port. The GPS cable should indeed be 6 pins on both sides, and you plug it into the GPS port on the side (the 6 pin one). The compass cable goes into the I2C port (4 pins)

  • My 2 new APM 2.6 were shipped with wrong cable for the GPS.  When will the errors end?  I can't believe that the warehouse can't get it right.  The GPS uses a 5-6 cable (5 pins on one end and 6 pins on the other).  I was shipped 6 pin to 6 pin cables.  Also the top 5 pin port on the APM is larger than the port on the side. It is unclear which port I should be using.  The instructions shipped with the APM 2.6 indicates side entry.  The Forest Gump movie has a great line in it...Stupid is as Stupid does.   This error should not happened.  When will the errors end????????

  • @ Josh, They line up and plug in.
@ Chris, yes both are plugged in.
  • Joseph, will you check both ends of the mag cable? Make sure that the female terminals in rhe connector are lined up with the openings in the plastic housing of the connectora, and also check the male pins on the APM I2c port and the mag port of the GPS.

Just to be clear, you are connecting TWO cables, not just one, right?

  • Yes. I am getting GPS lock. But no compass movement and when I test it in terminal window it say compass failed to initialized. This was on both units. On 3.x firmware.

And you're sure you've plugged the mag cable into the right ports on both GPS and APM?
