3689432775?profile=originalHi there! Finally you can pre-order the ArduIMU V3 here.. You can find more info abut it in my last post here

The final version of the board for full production is here, I'm expecting to start shipping them this Friday or Monday.

We are still working on documentation and giving the final cosmetic touches to the example code to have it ready before you have one in your hands and at the same time we are shipping samples to developers to do a full DCM integration.

From now on our new color will purple! All our new products will feature a Lilypad style look!

(Note: this is a stand-alone IMU, and is not designed to be a replacement for the "Oilpan" IMU shield of ArduPilot Mega.)

  • @SgtRic: I'm not native english speaker, so maybe lang problems here. I just meant to say raised/higher price, whatever. Sorry if some negative connotations are involved.

Now lets focus on the board, if you wish.

  • I'm a newbie and I have been eyeballing the 3DR quad kit with electronics. Is there a plan to change this kit to include this new IMU?

    @i.S.
Really I.S., thats ALL that concerns you?
Then maybe you should avoid creating ill will with loaded phrases like "pumped up" prices!

Like you said "a more elegant" comment was possible!
  • ok, ok. easy guys.

Chris: This is all preanouncing things is about, you get input from community, can be positive or negative, but this way the hype is formed, more expectation, and is the way to get valuable input from community. You can't expect "oh guys you are awesome, this product design is perfect, the code is super mature and the price is dirty cheap" (at least not always ;) ) If that was the case you will have dumb customers--> you will relax on your (great) work --> competition will catch up and surpas your goods

So think as this: when the community criticizes, is actually supporting you ;)

Thanks Jordi for the explanation and for IMU comparison (though Sparkfun is not the cheapest place).

ArduIMU V3 is a nice board and lots of interesting things can be done with these kind of circuits.

Enough said for me. Wish the rest of the thread talks about the firmware and how the MPU-6000 and its integrated DCM is behaving, that is what really concerns me.

    @ Jordi/Chris

Maybe you guys could just say "IT" (i.e. Cool New Thingy) is expected to be A) Cheaper, B) 'bout the same, or C) lot's more but worth it...

Any idea of when we can get a preview of documentation?

Don't you guys need a "Novice Tester", you know to give a Newbs perspective to your cool stuff?  I volunteer :)

    Thanks

Chris, actually I should apologize. I shouldn't give any prices without investigating the proper cost. I know that costumer always react the same and I screwed up. I did a "fast" calculation based on the old price of the MPU-3000, plus I was excited while I was writing the post and I wanted to share it to everybody.

I'm so sorry for the inconveniences I possibly caused to everybody.

Sorry I.S. the Razor that I was talking about doesn't have the Atmega328p, the one that I'm talking about costs $125!! and has less capabilities (except for the battery connector, that is cool but doesn't justify the price). Nobody can make it cheaper except China and if we  eliminate distributors of course but then everybody will lose because I will have to close the business and you can forget about future developments.

  • 3D Robotics

Fab: So you would like Jordi to officially apologize for having written "(around $60 $78dlls, not confirmed)" in his original post?

And people wonder why we don't like posting more of our hardware roadmap ahead of time... Lesson learned: in the future we won't post anything on products until they're off the production line, priced and ready to sell. As you say, this will ensure that we set precise expectations, no apologies needed.

I.S. So sorry but as I said: It was not confirmed. ;-)  Invensense "pumped" the prices due to the high demand. I would love to give a production price to everybody but we have to pay the bills. Also  compared to the Razor from Sparkfun that has less capabilities ($99) and the code is not fully supported (actually written by us), we are doing good. ;-)

  • yep, just offering my point as a customer.

a more elegant answer was possible.
