For those who don't want to be waiting for it, here's your your best option: Order it and be one of the firsts to receive it (As always FIFO service).

Go for it here: http://store.diydrones.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BR-0012-01

It will be released during the next week (Sorry for the long delay!).

BTW the pictures is just for display purposes, the final color you will receive is blue and has the latest improvements. ;-)

@Leonardo. We included an airspeed sensor in the original ArduPilot, but after lots of flight testing learned that it was not necessary for most aircraft. So we've made it an optional extra for ArduPilot Mega. If you want it, you can add it for $19.

    @mark
SparkFun/Jordi/Chris have done this with the ArduPilot right from the beginning too.

(I mention the DIYDrones guys since it is a combination of their design and SparkFun's marketing that makes it possible I think)
  • Chris/Jordi,

Reading the thread I still have a question regarding the airspeed sensor. Using airplanes, how this new ardupilot will measure the airplane speed so it do not enter in a stall or goes above its limit speeds. Is this board capable of calculating such information?

    Tks,
    Leonardo
  • Chris, the arduino mega costs $60. How are you guys selling the ardupilot mega (arduino mega + extras) for the same price?
  • 3D Robotics
@Mark. Yes. It works just like Arduino Mega, but with a different footprint and a lot of extras (including a second Arduino onboard with a atmega328)
  • Thanks SgtRic and Chris.

I understood it wrong. I thought you needed both the Arduino Mega and the Ardupilot mega. Glad to hear you don't need both and that the Ardupilot mega is the arduino. I just saved 60 bucks.

While we're on the subject, does this mean I can use the Ardupilot Mega for other tasks (where I would otherwise use the arduino mega)?
  • 3D Robotics
@Mark. SgtRic is right--ArduPilotMega is an Arduino--you don't also need an Arduino Mega.

@Mark, you kinda make it sound like you need the Arduino AND the ArduPilot... thats not what you meant is it?

(the ArduPilot Mega is both the AP and the brains, as you put it)

Documentation for Mega will be available when the shield ships. Code will be available by the end of June.
  • Mauro, you need the Arduino Mega, the Ardupilot Mega(from sparkfun), and the Shield(as shown in this post). You also need a GPS and xbee for telemetry.

The shield has all the sensors, the ardupilot mega is the actual autopilot, and the arduino does the thinking.

Chris, please correct me if I'm wrong above. Also, when will the documentation and the code for the mega be released?
