Cheap keychain camera

Back in december there was this blog-post about a keychain camera. Today Hobbyking has launched a similar camera: . It does 640x480 at 30fps and co
mes with a 2GB SD card included.

Now, the camera in the blog post from December has a higher resolution than this new Turnigy camera. Hobbyking mentions that too, but says (fwiw): Other similar cameras have software AVI formatting to 720x480px,reducing clarity of the 640x480 native image from the lense. While this
sounds good on paper, it makes the movie less clear and enjoyable.

Crashingdutchman , there is nothing wrong in making a buck or two . We as Diy drone community don't have a problem with that but having a hidden agenda/link does not elude for long. There are just two many very smart people in a very small space here. For now I am sure moderators won't delete or remove it. Thanks for bringing this camera to our notice , it was also pointed earlier by another member( Rana) who is successfully using it for some good video footage for quite sometime now.
  • I have purchased a lot of Items form HK and have found all to be good quality products. I have also purchased one each of their other video cameras. Both come with a high quality 2Gbyte micro SD card and record very good video. So if you do not like the key chane camera try one of these, see links below.

  • I have changed the link. It is not hidden anymore and the affiliate part has been removed.

I didn't want to start a controversy here and I didn't track for marketing value. I am just interested to see how many people click this link. Believe it or not.
  • I think evil is a bit strong but be honest about things like that. There is far too much of this going on in UAV field recently, why can't people do things for the fun of it any more? Post a link because it is useful not just to make money from it, why do you want to track clicks? Obviously to see what marketing value DIYDrones has for you.

This site has changed, it used to be about the fun of learning and sharing but now it appears to be about making money much more. There is a lot less DIY here now, it is mostly about productising items and dollars, what a pity.
  • Here is a link to site with all kind of information that probably is usable for this camera: http://chucklohr.com/808/#DateTimeRemoval

  • @Angus,

Why evil? The reason that I use an URL shortening service is that I want to track how many people click that link. I also posted this on my twitter (http://www.twitter.com/crashindutchman) and my blog (http://www.rc-international.info). From about 157 people that (currently) maybe 4 people bought the camera. Maybe I make a buck or 2...

@moderator, please remove link if you feel that it's inappropriate
  • Affiliate links hidden behind a URL shortening service?? That's evil...

@Jack, shipping shows up as $2.99 for me. Where do you live, the moon?

I ordered a couple from ebay that are similar but different. Mine has a micro sd card slot and no onboard memory. It holds up to an 8gb card, but I use a 2gb. The manual and posts online tell you how to change the date/time stamp but they illude me... I agree regarding you get what you pay for, but the video is actually not bad considering I paid $15 including shipping from HK. I figure mine could make it's posted recording d'ebut during a glide test on my tandem wing I'm workinging on...
  • not advocate of HK - last time I received a brand new empty 0V LiIon battery...,but look on the movies from comments - not so bad. Attaching to car or boat is alternative, too. And it is 15+2USD(arrives for week or two, instead of day or two), so I just ordered one. If not worked as described, it will get a deserved comment, if yes - I will post some videos :-) Thanks CrashingDutchman!
