We have a winner! Adrian Mescalchini is the victor of our "Design a New Banner" competition, and his work is now gracing the top of this page. We'll work with him to slightly enlarge the type, but the overall design was a clear favorite amongst those voting in the poll over at Google+ (I wanted to also get the views of a broader community, not just the current members of this site)

It was hard to choose just one, so in recognition of two such talented designers, both will be getting a full APM 2.5 kit as prizes. But Adrian, as the people's choice, wins the top award, of the banner at the top of this page.
Many thanks to all the others who entered this competition. Ning, our hosting platform, is moving to a 3.0 version with a lot of new design tools and a cleaner aesthetic, and we'll be migrating to that this summer. That means lots of additional opportunities for this community to contribute to the evolution of our design. More contests, more prizes!

Congrats to the winner and runner up, Both are nice clean designs that accurately reflect the scope of our little drones.
I can remove the background dot pattern, and changes needed to adapt the head, to the website, please tell me whatever it takes
Thanks, John Arne. We're going to do a redesign of the entire site this summer as we migrate to Ning 3.0, so we'll probably modify both the banner and the web colors then.
Great design, and the platform illustrations fits perfectly. But the dark heavy palette crash with the current web colors. I would suggest either changing the web page colors, or lighten up the banner to match the rest of the page.
Something like:
Can you get rid of the grid paper / dots and make it all black so it fits in with the new banner? Seems like the banner is just floating and could be a lot more integrated looking.

Thanks to those who suggested that we do more such successful crowdsourcing efforts with documentation and other projects. We agree! Although this community is driven by volunteers, 3DR has now hired two full-time professionals and two contractors to help lead the teams, including the 30 volunteers working within the Documentation User Group. There has been a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes over the past three months, and it's getting close to including the full community.
You can see a glimpse of the team's work in the betas of the new ArduPlane, ArduCopter and ArduRover sites. Click on the "Instructions" tab to see what the new manuals will look like.
Right now most of the work has been in creating new graphics and design elements to make the manuals easier to read and use, with some work on simplifying and updating the content. But because they're based on a Wiki-plugin for WordPress, it's also a much more powerful and flexible collaboration environment that the current Google Code wiki for community participation, and we can now take this opportunity to update and improve every page of the manual.
Just a reminder that these sites are still in beta, and we won't be steering users to them until the documentation team has had an opportunity to scrub every page. We'll continue to maintaining the Google Code wikis for legacy purposes, but the new sites are designed to reflect the model we'll be moving to in the future.
