Copter-GCS: Android ground station for ArduCopter

GPSSample.png?width=420Hello all,

After some field testing, i'm finally ready to release a copy of the Android based, bluetooth GCS for ArduCopter into the wild.

For all the details go to the site.

Its available in 3 ways:

  • Install from Android Market ($5, largely to offset publishing costs/support development) Copter-GCS
  • Install the APK from the download section (Free)
  • Build from source, following these instuctions.

The reason for the market version is for those who would like to just install in the easiest way possible / receive automatic updates or would like to support development costs (thanks you) such as the fee required to publish on the market.

  • Man, I would love to just plug my new 3DR 915mHz radio into my Android Pad and go to the field with full functionality including the option of replacing my Transmitter functionality for the most part. Kind of AR Drones Genius big brother.

  • Who's using MAVLink 1.0 ? - APM planner + default firmware uses 0.9 ?

  • Yup :) Just got back the word that the new code is working (my copter is using the 1280 board).

Check the downloads section for version 9, which is running MAVLink 1.0

    Cheers,

    Bart

Hi Bart, any further news on this?

  • I'm working this week on getting MAVLink1.0 support included, as that switch was recently made apparently. Still looking into it.

For the rest, I certainly intend to improve the code this summer (its winter here atm, and -16....), as I have moved to a rural area with lots of test area. Most of my time currently is taken by design and build of an octocopter. When that gets in the air,  there will certainly be improvements, as well as a tablet version I expect.

  • I'm waiting for my spare xbee to arrive and was going to have a play. Want to add (possible?) Touch buttons to switch modes instead of using radio.

Hi Bart, do you think to improve/align your great software when AC 2.5.0 is released?
I really want to improve the "follow-me" function using your software with the internal gps of the phone.
    Possible? YES! :-)

  • Hi Rebero,

On which activity is GPS not showing? Last I tried it worked on Status, GPS and Mission views for me, but something may have changed. Let me know and i'll see what's going on.

    Thanks,

    Bart.

Congratulation Bart, i test it and work fine ... Only doubt is that GPS data don't working ...

  • For those of you interested, I've released a new version with MAVLink support and a HUD. Because of MAVLink, you can now also use if for your planes.
