DIY DRONES, amazing forum, unfriendly store

Hi all,

ok.. it was my fault. I usually buy online, I usually pay immediatly (because i'm an honest guy) and I wait for my items.

This time happens to me, probably the first time, to realize i've bought wrong items.
I would like to build my first quadcopter and Arducopter project is interesting.. but Arducopter project is at the first, alpha, stage. So.. probably not a good project, not a tested software for my purpose.
Probably not tested hardware ... will I be surprised if a new version will be released soon, after first delivery ?

After understood that, i said "Ok.. no problem.. OilPan shield is in pre-order". So.. probably i can ask to cancel my order, because items are not available yet and it's impossible they already ship them.

After 2 days I've sent an email to ask to cancel my order. Answer is :

"Once orders have been payed for they cannot be canceled. This is specified under the payment information when you check out to place you order"

That's all!

Fine.. No itemes available (pre-order), but no money back. I can not cancel my order. I could agree to pay, i don't know, we can say ...10% of cost, as "Order Management fee". No.. it's not possible.
Unfriendly.

This is just a warning for buyers : read carefully "Term & Conditions" before buy anything !!
It's not a school test : here you can not do a mistake !

What happens now ? Ok.. i will wait for OilPain.. and i will not buy at this store anymore.

  • "PLEASE!: TRIPLE CHECK everything before placing your order. There are no changes or cancellations after the order is placed. Orders cannot be refunded or returned once they have been placed. Thank you for understanding.

Please consider that your whole order will be on hold if one or more items are out of stock, you can always check the stock status of any of our products. Thanks for your support."

It is step 4 of the 4 step checkout process, and the first sentence is in BOLD RED LETTERS.

Don't blame the store just because you didn't read the prominent section stating that you cannot cancel your order. It is not blended into a wall of text or part of the microscopic small print at the bottom; it is prominently displayed on the order checkout section.

If someone wants to have a store that spray paints every third ordered item pink, that is their right, and as long as they notify their customers, what is wrong with that?
  • I guess I did not know that once the money changed hands the deal was set in stone. I don't have a problem with this and I order from 2 other companies online that have policies like that. But, once I place my order I get an email that the body tells me once I reply accept to this order everything is now set in stone and I can't call back to change my order or anything like that.

it might be an idea to add a page that highlights this part of the terms and conditions in the order proccess.
That said I do like the store and what this site does for this hobby, and I am just offering up what I have seen elsewhere.

  • Finally an happy ending. DIYDrones Store totally refunded me. Thanks to Chris and all Store staff for understanding.
  • CheBuzz said: "What I am glad to see, however, is discussion about things people don't like. It's always good to see the good and the bad things that people say about you. This helps make things better for everybody."

Yep... that's what the Internet is all about. As we can see, the store took care of the matter. That's what counts!
  • A shield that I bought arrived with a damaged airspeed sensor. It took a little back and forth but they finally decided to send me a replacement. So I can't complain. Other experiences went as expected.

I'm not sure I agree with the cancellation policy, but that's their choice. As long, as has been stated already, this doesn't conflict with State/Federal law and/or their Merchant account policy. Personally I accept cancellations on anything that hasn't shipped yet, but again that's me.

What I am glad to see, however, is discussion about things people don't like. It's always good to see the good and the bad things that people say about you. This helps make things better for everybody.
  • @Chris/Sqr Ric.. thanks. Sorry but i did not understand you would like to cancel my order (all items), but only transfer my OilPan pre-order to Scott.
    Thanks again for understanding.

    @NardS
Earlier Chris said he'd straighten out your order, so what the heck is the problem?
Why are you quoting terms and conditions and still arguing, when he said 2 hours ago that it was fixed.
  • 3D Robotics
NardS. That's fine. As I already said, we'll cancel your order.
  • @Chris : on store Terms & Conditions is written :
“Order cancelations/refunds are allowed only in the fallowing conditions:
    1. - When we cannot longer provide one or more items of the actual order (i.e. discontinued parts).
    2. - When one or more items of the actual order are not expected to be shipped in more than 30 days.
    3. - When one or more items of the actual order is marked as “In Stock” but it was actually “Out of Stock”

In my order i have OilPan, but also magnetometer. Magnetometer is marked as "In Stock" because i can add to Cart but Edna (from Store) confirm me it's "Out of Stock". Nowhere in website is written Magnetometer is "Out of Stock", as happens for other items i can not add to Cart. It's not written Magnetometer is "Out of Stock". So, this is exactly the situation described at point 3 and this means i have right to cancel/refund my order.
I already asked to Edna to refund me. Hope Store respect its Terms and Conditions.
  • If you paid for the item using your credit card, then specific state and federal laws apply to the purchase... which cannot be usurped by store policy (or fine print, or anything to the contrary, regardless of how much the store may insist it can). In particular, once your card has been charged, the item must be shipped to you within a given set of days (varies from state to state), or you must be notified of the option to cancel.

Once again... store policy may not usurp state or federal laws. In addition, as a condition of having a merchant account (which allows them to accept credit cards), stores must also comply with merchant policy as set forth by the card network.

As far as the comment which stated "this is a personal thing between you and the store" - tell it to all the folks on Amazon, who publicly rate their experience shopping at a particular store (as well as with a particular product). I don't see you telling them "this is between you and the manufacturer!" The greater public good is served by making these type of things public. That should be obvious.
