Why not use Eclipse? It's open source and you can develop for STM32F4 with it. It's great for python too. Keil uVision also looks nice, but I don't think you can download the source.
@ steve elder, I don't know if an open-source IDE exists for the STM32. I'm guessing if it did, then it would be common knowledge for the PX4 community (not that I've gone looking for it either, so it may exist)
The failsafe thingy is the ATMEGA32U2 chip onboard the APM that is doing the USB comms, PWM-PPM conversion and a few other tasks.
That just completes one cycle. And there is design improvement every time new board created.
Truth is that even with that lucrative price I would not buy APM anymore. Bought my last one 8 month ago, $50 second hand. It is STM32/PX4 time already.
Sure...
When HK post PCB - you modify and made own AP...
@Vladimir, sure in this instance HK are the good guys. Assuming HK post the PCB files as promised, they have followed all rules and even intentions of open source hardware.
Looking at this discussion I understand ...
HK is a great company, copy someone else proekt. And 50 bucks savings - it's just brilliant.
@Quadzimodo
Thank you for catching the misspelling. Hextronix... Techtronix... Penetrode... something like that :)
Andrew,
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I haven't been a serious programmer in quite a while, but why won't open source IDEs work for the PX4 code as well as the APM code? I assume that they are both written in C or C++ with some ASM…
And what is the fail-safe/watchdog function that you are referring to?
Thanks,
Steve
OK, so the PX4FMU as a "competitor" product to this new baby has no open-source IDE nor has it a failsafe/watchdog unless you couple it with an IO board of some sort.
Not a criticism, but one pays one's moolah and takes one's choices. For me, $77.03 (including "one-off" discount) is a lot of capability indeed in a very small package.
