More uBlox 4 U

There it is. The cheapest $47 bare board uBlox-5 available + $14 shipping.

As flimsy as it is, the hope is it'll be obsolete by the time it falls apart. The helical antenna only has 3 solder points, so the $90 brand name version probably wouldn't last longer. Knowing the wars about diydrones product offerings, we're not going to tell you where to buy the $47 special.

Voltage regulator attached.

Now your 1st look at the helical antenna. The rubber enclosure slides right off, revealing:

Is it a revolution in lighter weight, omnidirectional reception or another gimmick like fiber optic servo cables?

Unfortunately a killer commute & difficulties with the Air Force have this myth inching along. Have some commute footage instead.

  • pair the Sarantel antenna with the MediaTek MT3329 chipset then you would have a gps, 10 hz with an omni-directional antenna, just what alot of people need/want.
  • Kevin, you're awesome! That's the spirit. I'm trying to stuff an autopilot inside a Multiplex Merlin. Not a lot of room so this is a good one to try out.
  • Nice Kevin!
  • Since Jack is being difficult (big surprise there lol), you can get them from here http://www.esawdust.com/product/egps-fsa03-module/ for $47, with as low as $7 shipping.
  • Cool, it looks like Jack found the UBER_BLOX!!
  • looks a lot like a Falcom FSA03 http://www.falcom.de/products/gps-modules/fsa03/
  • Dang, that's small, and cheap.

"Is it a revolution in lighter weight, omnidirectional reception or another gimmick like fiber optic servo cables?"

Wow, low blow, but I still lol'd.

It already is obsolete. Now that ublox has introduced the ublox-6 family, the UBX-G5010 part is now being replaced with the UBX-G6010

    2 quick questions .......

    1) is this a genuine product or a knock-off/copy of the genuine (Ublox been the genuine - with a Sarantel (?) antenna)?
    2) whats the diameter of the white dielectric material onto which the 4 copper helix elements are bonded (I can then work the helix dimensions out and run a bunch of paper-calc's)?

    Thanx
