New on DIY Drones: Badges! Which ones should we use?

Ning, the hosting platform that DIY Drones uses, has just enabled badges! We've been asking for these for a long time so I'm thrilled. What that means is that administrators such as myself can now recognize members for their contributions and award them badges that reflect their skills and accomplishments.

The badges are little image files that show up on the members profile picture, everywhere they appear, so you can see their status at a glance.

We can create any kind of badge, both in word and image, and that reflects the qualities that we value most here. So which ones should we roll out?

Here are some starting suggestions:

  • Moderator: one of the members with moderation powers here on the site
  • Developer: member of one of the official dev teams)
  • Maven: A recognized expert who is particularly helpful to other members. As an example, I've assigned the amazing Marco Robustini to this category, with a placeholder checkbox symbol. (We need better symbols, so I'll need people to submit suggestion badge images here, too)
  • T3 participant: Anybody who has entered in a T3 competition.
  • N00b Ninja: A member who is very patient and nice to n00bs ;-)

Any other suggestions?

yeah! this will help a lot the new people on site to know who is the "expert"... but for the rest of us the "old timers" we know pretty much who's who!

still you have my vote, this is great!  Maybe you can have an icon/badge for distributors so people know we are giving advice from experience with the products... just a taught ... as we are also super patient with N00bs and usually quite involved in the help is general.

Great Idea Chris!  As one of the very early members, I have am always so impressed with the continued talent,  ingenuity and drive displayed here daily. Recognition is a great bonus.

If this was a badge I'd be handing it out daily !

Tridge and Bill P gets the wizard hat! (and I'm sure others I'm not thinking of)

I like the idea of the yin-yang for Noob Ninja.  But without the airplane (it'll be too busy when scaled down).  Sort of represent how the experts were also noobs once, and give back to the noobs.

After my last outing on the dev list, the one concerning the artificial horizon in the hud's planner, I want to be downgraded to ultra-n00b! : P

@Chris, I'm blushing.  I think Robert may be right though.  The plane is kind of busy.  It was really more of a suggestion. Its the tail marking on a Nanchang CJ-6A, which can be found on google images.  I'm sure the forum will be able to tweak it a little to make it a DIY Drones original.  The Yin-Yang is definitely cool though.

Let me know what you think... I can also resize it smaller if you need...
