Sparkfun Autonomous Vehicle Competition recap video

Great fun. The Sparkfun team did a terrific job of giving a flavor of this competition, from the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat, and all the crazy crashes inbetween.

It's full of DIY Drones team members, too, with Doug and Jason highlighted. Lots of great shots of Doug's catapult. The post is here.

Something about autonomous quads flying that close to the crowd seems well, potentially dangerous? Some planes did go into the crowd, but were on the ground and pusher props. Could have been worse.  The AMA will probably use this video against us, as an example of irresponsible behavior.

Doug's auto-launch platform performance was impressive. Really cool and super fast.

If the takeoff wasn't using hard coded throttle values for climbing & equilibrium, its getting pretty wicked sonar performance.  The only problem is we never fly over asphalt.

Big fun. Obvious question arise, what are those old farts in european universities doing so that all we have is MAV competition in Germany, all guarded by entry fees etc.

Jason's quad taking off gets the cool award from me.  It makes a little jet like sound and you can heard a bunch of people yelling "whoa", "wow", etc.
