Every weekday in May, we’re going to be sharing a glimpse of what we’re working on behind the scenes at 3D Robotics. You’ll see many of our projects, see the facilities, meet the people and maybe get some hints at products coming out soon.  There are more than 70 of us now — in three facilities — and we’re super busy,  so there’s a lot to show!

Today, I’ll start off with a teaser. What do you think the above is and how is it used?

  • We use that same sort of thing at where I work (a WiFi company) to capture multiple channels at once.  We do it to capture roaming between channels - are you guys supporting roaming between telemetry sets?

    Here's a curveball question, why have the antenna so close to each other--considering the wavelengths of the 2.4Ghz dipole and 900Mhz dipoles antennas) -- sure looks like a pair of 2.4 and another pair of 900's (or 468?).

  • 1. Test jig for testing telemetry modules prior to shipping. Send test data out 1 antenna, check receive on others. Repeat for each antenna.

    2. MIMO implementation for telemetry modules. Extends range and reliability.

    3. Full-duplex telemetry using half-duplex modules. Transmit on one module, receive on another.

    4. Concept generator. Put arbitrary parts together and see what concepts the community comes up with when given the problem to reverse-engineer it.

    5. Repeater. Receive on one freq, transmit on another.

    6. Auto-land using differential signal measurement. Maverick, call the ball.

    7. Data collection jig for comparing performance of the different antennae available from 3DR.

    8. SETI distributed collection array. Put one on every UAV for a planet wide antenna array to detect ET.

    9. Parallel universe wormhole generator. Simply inject the same MAVLink data but at 90 degrees out of phase from the each of the four antennae. Heard that the last four you did never came back. Recommend you try virtual fencing in 4 dimensions.

  • Tracking 4 (Copters) Simultaneously in a more interesting version of Mission Planner than the one we have.

    Or, it looks like you might have 2 3DR type transceivers and 2 other (radios) possibly FPV so there is at least a possibility you are using your laptop to exercise automatic control over 2 copters and are using the bidirectional link to get real time feedback from them so you can coordinate their position relative to each other as well.

    Combied with FPV and possibly OSD, the mind boggles.

    And in which case you are definitely using some firmware and software we don't have.

    Cool idea though.
