A sunbather on Virginia Beach claims she was sexually harassed by a drone, which she says was being used to spy on women.

In a post on Reddit describing the incident earlier this week, the woman wrote she was relaxing at the beach with her mother when she heard a whirring noise and noticed a remote-controlled aircraft nearby. She resumed napping.

The woman then noticed the drone was flying very close to female beach-goers and had a camera attached to it, according to her Reddit post. After the device hovered close to her and her mother, the woman said she located the men controlling it and approached them. She told them the device was “seriously creepy.” One responded, “It isn’t going to hurt you,” according to her Reddit post.

  • I'm sure she knows it and enjoys it. If she didn't enjoy the attention of having people stare at her breasts and take pictures of it, she wouldn't be posting pictures of them all over Reddit.  This is clearly just more attention seeking on her part.

  • The fact is that at the moment the word "drone" throws every single "journalist" and wannabe journalist into an immediate feeding frenzy. If someone posts a story on Reddit about a drone sucking blood from baby goats in the full moon it's likely to get picked up by Fox News and the rest and broadcast far and wide, and maybe they'll get their 15 minutes of fame. Here, the attention wh I mean perp seems to have cleverly spun her tale in a context that is difficult to ridicule without touching off a political-correctness firestorm. Nevertheless, we might ask this beach bunny if she ever noticed people all around her yakking on cell phones, and if she ever noticed the little shiny glass thingys pointing right at her on the backs of many of those phones? Does she realize that those are (gasp!) LENSES that are connected to CAMERAS, diabolically concealed in all those phones, and if she does know this, does she run madly from one to another demanding the, um, film? Well, she surely knows all of that, but it won't get her mentioned coast to coast;  it takes the magic word DRONE to do that!

  • Have you seen the rest of reddit content? She's posting pictures of her boobs and showing off her newly increased bra size. Among other non-sense.  I can't figure out why she is all mad about this when she seems to enjoy flaunting her body in front of the entire world.  Still doesn't excuse the foolish operation of a UAV though.

  • I just couldn't help but add my $0.02 AUD to the thread.  Though I was forced to limit my response to just 10,000 characters.

John, People are free to do what they want in private so long as it doesn't hurt anybody else........ I would suggest taking the props off.........

  • I posted this over on the IRIS Owners Facebook page and got these responses (below). Sounds like this woman is just turning her imagination loose to concoct a fantasy or something.

That said, incidents involving irresponsible operation of drones, REAL, IMAGINARY, OR IMAGINED are gonna cause all of us problems with the powers that be before all this shakes out . . . I'm sorry to say.

    • Kevin Foster So, ummm, yeah. The Jezebel article mentions the name of the reddit account that this was originally posted from.
Here are the titles from that users' three other posts:

"I am a nymphomaniac female who is always turned on--AMA"

"Back for more~Nymphomaniac female with more stories! AMA"

"Hi BDP! I have a large boyfriend and I need help with sex!"

So, yeah..... not the most reliable of sources.
    • Kevin Foster Oh, and the users' account name?
      forthelulzaccount

I'm not gonna believe anything posted by that account. Ever.
    • Johnny Baer We certainly don't need HER help with our public relations. But everybody's got their little agenda.
After I thought about it a while I began to wonder if the guy was REALLY flying as she described weight some of the women he flew right up behind (an
d stayed there) didn't notice and sway the quad with a beach towel. This sounds more like a fantasy than a factual happening. I never dreamed anyone might make a quad the subject of a sex fantasy. Hmmm . . .

    @Pedals2Paddles

It's not the same thing laying on the beach in public and having people glance occasionally in your direction. If she were laying on the beach and some guy setup a blanket six feet from her and started staring at her, or worse yet pointed a camera at her and started recording, I bet she would have felt violated too. Rightfully so. Let's not minimize the bad behavior of these individuals essentially playing a game of digital voyeur. It's stupid pranks like this that will fuel the debate over "drones" and privacy issues.

  • Hmm - Is creepy grounds for harassment? I guess Geeks everywhere just better stay indoors.

  • This is why we can't have nice things.
